Possible adult ADD?

I agree that a doc who specializes in it might be helpful.

You can have ADHD and it's not always easy for a regular pdoc to diagnose it. It probbly duzzn't help if he's one of the ones who believe it doesn't exist!

Some kids who have ADHD grow out of it; some don't and have to deal with it as adults.

Most people with ADHD actually respond to stimulants in a way that's contradictory; instead of making your mind race more, it can actually calm you down and allow better focus.

I took upwards of 40 mg of amphetamine extended release and it helped me concentrate. But this is one area where the exact dose and the exact chemical can make worlds of difference.

In other words, a low dose of Wellbutrin may do zip. But a higher dose might make all the difference. Vyvanse high dose might be overwhelming, but a low dose might make you feel great. Same goes for Ritalin (methylphenidate) or Concerta or any other stimulant.

They all seem to work by increasing dopamine or norepinephrine in your brain. I gots me some low dopamine, and I can only function effectively a few hours of the day, hate that.

Best advice from a doctor I got was to be patient and try them one at a time and take notes. I check blood pressure, pulse and how I feel on a given dose.

Can you just take straight Dopamine????????? I wonder If they make it, like a peptide or somethin.

Hi guys!

Actually my pdoc is at a clinic which treats adult ADD. But what shall I do when he always says that I prolly don't have it? This pisses me off!

But at the same time I don't know if stims would be good for me at all.
I mean when someone already struggles with anxiety then going on stims could be like pooring oil into the fire.
And I also worry about long term side effects of stims to the brain. Who knows what they do to the brain in terms of receptor downregulation or upregulation? I know that antipsychotics can have terrible side effects and cause extrapyramidal movement disorders and dyskinesia. What if stims could do the same?

I'd be happier if ADD could also be treated in other ways without taking anything that hardcore.
And I also read that stims are a problem when you're on thyroid meds, which I am. :/

ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh ummm, maybe so, Not 2 hardcore though, cuz then you will be like bebebebebebebebebebewbwbwbwbwbwbewh. I've takin fat burner's with them before. Just be carefull.

RE Possible Adult ADD re

Does not sound like ADD at all. Sounds like anxiety/hypomania. I get the same as you every so often. A small amount of diazepam and I eventually get some sleep. The less I sleep the more and more my heart and thoughts race. It's a bad cycle to get into.

If the anti depressants made it worse then it was probably Hypomania and you'd be best to take a Mood Stabilizer or Seroquel with the anti depressant. I am extremely sensitive to SNRI's because of the adrenaline and I find myself cleaning the house like mad and getting by on little sleep. Do not take stimulants.

Cal did you get tested and or treated for ADHD? Its interesting that I got diagnosed with adult ADHD and while on an ADHD chat board saw that all the symptoms that resulted in my ADHD diagnosis were related to low T. Got tested and at least I have some concrete proof by lab work that I have an issue here. Just posted this thread:

Keep in mind that adults with ADHD often present different from children. As with children the classification is the same: primarily inattentive, primarily hyperactivity and combined. Its just that symptoms of hyperactivity, for instance, present different in adulthood (intruding on other people's conversations etc). Also know there is a lot of "co morbid" conditions meaning that it is common to have overlap of the ADHD diagnosis, anxiety and depression. Low T can cause depression in men and it responds very well to treatment
