protein powder - your experiences

need to build up muscles mass/density, honestly how good is protein powder? what have you gained/lossed by using it and how long have any positive/negative effects lasted for you?

only positive things to say about it, get the right kind and there is no problems with digestion or bloaty, tastes great and aids in getting in daily protein requirments and its the best protein source post workout (fastest digesting)

Protein powder is one of the most essential building blocks for muscles. Try to get in at least 1.5g of protein per pound of body weight. But dont take it all in shakes, make sure your getting protein from foods to. Id reccomend optimums 100% whey.

if i suddenly stop taking protein, will i lose all the muscle weight gained until im back at where i started?

I know with Creatine once you stop, after a couple of days you can lose 10 lbs (happend to me).

And why is this new "100%Whey" fad so well accepted? what does it differ from normal protein?

Why are proteins sold under diffrent names than Weightgains? they both contain protein right? what am I misunderstanding?

I have had really good luck with Optimum nutrition's 100% whey, many protein powders simply gave me gas. I like to mix mine with whole milk, when I am bulking. My recent gains have come from diet and training hard, I can only give partial credit to protein powder because I eat well and often.

Look here, muscle is protein... and without protein what do u think will happen???
If u want to gain muscle u need protein! And without protein training will only make u smaller.

Serously man, u need to start reading ALOT! this is not a game, its a lifestyle. And starting to take creatine and when you stop it ofcourse u will loose some "weight" water weight that is, do u even know what creatine does bro?
Seriously, start reading and keep going with loads of protein before u start on creatine and stuff.

when i wentr on creatine, i only did a 5 week cycle but was suppose to do an 8 week. before i stasrted, i weighed 155 and at the end of the 5th week, i weight 167. i ended that 5th week like a month ago and only lost about 1lb., so creatine works good for some people, not all.

that's pretty impressive...What is your height, age?

Protein Intake

I've always wondered how much protein can you consume at once. I mean if I drink a protein shake that contains 50 grams of protein how much is my body really taking in out of that 50 grams??
Also does soy protein count because I eat soy a high protein cereal and love the vanilla soymilk with 3 brown eggs white in the morning.

Thanks again.

ok... i could be 150% wrong here... (it has happened before:-p) but plz dont flame me if i am! i am thinkin that i read somewhere, that soy protein promotes the realease of estrogen in the body... (my mom fed me all kindsa tofu and eggplant and high soy protein stuff when i was a baby, and i had gyno in 5th grade :( )

w00t: have never heard of that.

boricuaitaliano: If u take in 50 grams the body will take it up, although some of it might become energy. Better be safe then sorry.

I've heard from a nutritionist that the body can only take in 35 or so grams of protein at a time...I usually take in about 40 grams with my shakes though.

That's assuming that all bodies are the same and maybe for the average fat slug out there 35 grams is all they can handle, but someone who is carrying a lot of muscle on their frame probably can handle more than that. The digestive system has a way of adapting, but it is best to eat more often so that most of the protein is not simply passed through as waste.

yea... i was prolly wrong, im gonna do some more reasearch on that...

ok guys! i did do some reasearch... and soy protein DOES in fact cause gyno. well, its not like u eat soy protein and BOOM u got boobs, it lowers your testosterone levels. however, there are many positive health benefits from soy protein as well :) but personally...ill stick to my whey n' such :)
