Protein shake vs food? Post workout

I get home from the gym and either take a protein shake, with oats and PB with some milk (its weight gainer so its alot to consume) or eat 2 chicken breasts with 2 cups of rice an 1 potato. Then take my protein before i go to bed.

Should i take both at the same time or is better to separate the two?

just take slow digesting casein before bed and a quick whey pwo. other than that just eat!
 
If you're talking right after workout, I'd say a shake is better because it gets into your system fast. Then follow that with a meal later on. I drink a shake right after workout then a meal about an hour or 2 later.
