Quit TRT for 3 months now

I stopped on 9/27/14 cold turkey. The reason I did so is because it wasn't doing anything for me. I was on TRT for about a year. 8 months on Androgel, and 4 months on test cyp. The whole time on it, I never did Hcg. I was prescribed clomid instead. I don't know, maybe this is the reason I didn't feel any benefits. The reason I went on it to begin with is because I was having some ED issues. Well, I haven't had any morning wood since I stopped. My libido is non existent. I know some on here said not to stop cold turkey, but one of the doctors at the clinic said I didn't need to do anything special to stop. He said I would just go back to baseline. My total T was around 400 ng/dl before starting TRT, so it wasn't extremely low to begin with. Maybe I am shut down, although I don't feel too bad. I have a doctor appointment with my regular doctor tomorrow. I am going to ask him to check my testosterone, and I am going to ask him to have the E2 checked as well. This just sucks that my libido has gone bye bye. I do not have high blood pressure, my sugar is ok. In pretty good health, thank God. I'm 59, so maybe age has something to do with it.

PS: While on TRT, I got more body hair. This hasn't gone away.

You are shut down for sure. I'm on test c e7d and gad blood work after the first 2 weeks and I wasn't shut down by my next blood work I was.

Your dr didn't seem to bright.

What are you taking right now?

You know you can get bloodwork yourself privatemdlabs pretty chea and have the results in a couple of days

I'm not taking anything at the moment. I do have a half a vial of test cyp, and a androgel bottle.
Yeah, I'm aware of that I can get blood work done. But a dr visit is only $35.

I was starting to experience the libido issue before I stopped. I don't know what the heck is going on.

I would check more than just TT and E2. Also get a Free T, CBC, CMP, TSH, LH, FSH, Prolactin and SHBG. This would give you additional insight into how you are recovering and what may be going on.

So as for your TRT, did you run clomid while taking gel/injections at the same time? But when you decided to stop TRT, did they take you off the clomid?

Did you use an AI while on TRT? What was your E2 at?

Yes, I was told to take clomid while taking gel and injections. And yes, I stopped clomid after stopping.

I will ask the doctor to have these other things checked too.

I used arimidex as an AI. And I don't know if I ever got the dose right.

The thing is, where I went, they didn't check the blood to often. The last time I had the e2 checked, it was around 15.

Taking clomid while also taking gel/injections is unusual. Why did they have you do that?

Not getting your TT and E2 dialed in very well could have been causing your continued libido and ED issues. The clomid may have made things worse.

I am really surprised that they didn't have you use clomid after you stopped your Test injections. That would have helped you get your HPTA restarted. I guess we will see how you are doing when you get your blood work.

I would recommend being cautious with the advice these docs give you. Make sure you ouah back and fully understand their rationale for the advice they are giving you.

You have virtually zero chance of getting back to baseline. There isn't much of a maybe that you are shut down. There is a reason bodybuilders use a protocol appropriately named...POST CYCLE THERAPY (PCT)... after a run of testosterone and other goodies. You have been reading around here a while... come on man!

You took Clomid when you shouldn't have - during TRT. Not only was it useless, but it also has its own sides, which include lack of libdo. Now, you are off TRT, and not taking Clomid, when you should be.

Two options now - get on TRT and do it with non-moron Drs, or do a restart protocol, also with the assistance of non-moron Drs.

Jimstigator, when you have different people suggesting different things, it gets confusing.

If I decided to do a restart, what would you suggest?

I hear ya! Also hard to go against Dr's. Two primary drugs used for restarts, with a potential third. Clomid and Nolvadex. Both are SERMS. Both work. When I restarted, Nolvadex worked best for me, both in terms of testosterone numbers but also side effects. These are to be taken in reasonable low doses for up to a few months. For me, Nolvadex (tamoxifen) was started at 40mg a day and tapered down to zero over time. My first restart I did 40mg a day for a month and ended great. I say first as I have other issues that keep restarts from working long term.

The other potential drug is HCG. Some, like IMT, recommend it first to get testes going again. So the protocol might be something like HCG for a few weeks, then stop that and start Nolva or Clomid.

At this point, get your blood work results back and see where you are at before you start taking anything. In the meantime, keep reading here so you can understand your options better. You need to become an active participant in your medical care.

Ok. But I can't guarantee I will be able to get all the things you listed checked. I will definitely have TT, E2, and prolactin checked.

Think I will cancel appointment with regular dr and make an appointment with the TRT clinic. I can get testosterone results while there. And then go from there.

prob estrogen ..
i would not just stop HRT.... if you have low levels you have low levels... working out what works for you is more the point.. nvm clomid on HRT and even HCG IMO.. but an AI and test are likely needed. maybe not the AI .. but have on hand till you know for sure.

totally agree!

Normally I would not ask this, but since your doc was such a moron, I have to ask: What were your Total Test levels in the last few months of being on TRT?? And you do not know your Estradiol numbers while on TRT?

BTW I personally consider 400 TT to be very low. I can't imagine not having problems at that level. just my 2cents

My TT was something over 1100 ng/dl. Ok, so 400 is pretty low then huh. Then I guess I shouldn't compare how I felt before I going on HRT, because it was hovering around 350/400 at least 4 years prior to starting. The last estradiol test I had, it was around 15. They didn't measure E2 that often.

Good thing you know how to get convenient private blood work at a low price on your own. :-)
