Hi, I suffer from dreadful sciatica and sometimes I can barley walk, doctor has been little help only giving me cocodamol and ibuprofen which has no effect. Any ideas?

I live in the UK and doctor has not sent me for a scan, he tends to feel its due to lifting weights and doesn't see to think it's a big problem.

find a new doctor.. issues like this start at the spine.. you need to get it checked and see exactly what it is

This^^^^ dr says your issue is from lifting=lazy dr who isnt doing his job properly. Take 3Js advice and go see a specialist to pi point what is really going on.

I had a lifting related injury years back and just went to the emergency room, got a note for work, and the typical pain/muscle relaxant prescriptions. Was a lumbosacral strain, could barely stand up let alone walk or drive.

I got hired a year later and got insurance. I went to my doctor to have him examine the area. I told him it was lifting related and he examined my walking, sitting, laying, stretching, and just standing. He said, I can send you in for an MRI, but I believe I have a pretty good idea already based on everything I've seen.

He determined the strain was a result of bad form. But, he said that it seems one of my growth plates closed early as I was growing and caused a difference in leg length. This difference causes a rotation of the hips to compensate and act "normal". So, when setting up for deads 3-4 years ago, I was twisted up.

You can imagine, staying stiff and symmetrical throughout will make no difference when everything below the waist is fucked. This allows for no transfer. He gave me a lift for one side, this brings everything back into sync without needing surgery.

This is just a story of my experience with my doctor. I don't think a doctor should simply blow it off as just lifting pains... He/she should care about your health, encourage exercise, and help when you have a concern. Hell, bend over backwards considering their pay and the fact that you're even willing to bring your concerns to their attention. I know many people who have problems and just won't go to the doctor because their scared of what they're gonna say.. they have insurance and all..

I would search for someone a little more willing to help you sir. You deserve better.

Def try to get in with a Dr who isn't a turd! An MRI will reveal soft tissue pathology.

Another common thing that I am aware of that causes sciatica is piriformis syndrome. I got it from overuse of external rotator muscles in the hip area from running. Not sure if you may be doing any running lately or have somehow irritated that muscle. You can do a pigeon pose type yoga stretch or lie down on your back on top of a lacrosse or croquet type ball on the floor under glutes and roll around till you hit the spot. You'll know if it is that muscle causing pain!

Actually... most sciatica is caused from fascia and muscle tightness starting with the hammies and extending to glutes, obliques and so on. Try yoga stretching 2-3x a day. Google low back and upper leg/glute stretches.

What is your diagnosis? If you are really suffering from sciatica, you need to undergo surgical procedure.

wrong!... like the post above mentioned, try stretching the glutes and ham/glute tie ins. Surgery after several years of other treatments may be necessary. but in my opinion the very last resort!

I'd try to find a good physical therapist. Honestly, I'm sure mine has saved me lots of $ in doctors stuff over the last year or so. The stuff they do seems magical at times.
