Serious Help

I need some advice from you guys and definately the doctors of the board. I used to have REALLY bad headches from age 13 to 17. I haven't had another until today. What worries me is that before I get the headaches I see an aura and get bad vision, it is followed by dizziness and nausea. I got all those symptoms but I got sick this time. I went to a doctor when I was younger and he told me they were just migraines and gave me pills to take on the onset I get these headaches, they didn't work. Luckily at age 17 they just stopped and I didn't have to worry what they were caused by. I am worried I have a tumor but I think something would have come up on a test when I was younger. I started lifting when I was 12 and had to stop because of the headaches. I went to a chiropractor about the time my headaches went away and he showed me an Xray and my spine was pretty curved. He said that was the reason for my headaches but I think that was a biased opinion. Can the doctors here seriously tell me what it could be and what to do? Can you guys send them to this thread if you see them. These headaches caused me to quit alot of things and I can't imagine having one at work. Thank you.

The visual effects and nausea are classic migraine symptoms. Migraine headaches aren't very well understood, and there's no "cure".

Go see a doctor. A quick MRI will rule out a tumour and make you feel better...

I can tell you exactly what you have, you have classic cluster migraines, no doubt about it. Nothing serious but a pain in the ass. Certain foods such as chocolate, tomatoes, nuts etc. can trigger them. So can certain smells (strong perfume, aerosol spray etc.) and stress.
The best treatment is when you feel one comming on, flashing lights, blurred vision is to take two asprin and caffeine. Excedrin Migraine is the best otc for this condition, it works far better than most Rx drugs for your condition. Also it is important that if possible you get off by yourself and relax untill the vison problems subside. Please take my word you have no need to worry about tumors or other serious conditions.

My work up consisted of an EEG and an MRI. An organic reason for frequent and severe headaches needs to be ruled out first. If none are found, there are some prescription meds that can be used to treat it. Liftsiron is right about the diet. It can help a lot. You can rest a little easier knowing that the etiology of migrains (also spelled migraines) is unknown(no tumors!).

Thanks guys. The main thing that bothered me is that I got sick. If it were just a headache I feel the three aspirin would have helped with the sides but it didn't and I still got sick.

My mom gets migraines frequently and I also seem to have inherited that problem. I would still go to a doctor for peace of mind, and also he can prescribe some medicines to help you out. Phenergran helps me out with the sick feeling associated with migraines.

2 Imitrex really seems to help the girlfriend, but only if she takes them at the onset of the migraine. Stess and bright lights (driving at night as the perfect example) not to mention getting up too fast seem to be the major cause of her migraines.

I have friends that get them exactly like you described, one says if she gets to sleep as soon as the symptoms start it avoids a long ordeal

Can be blood sugar related, or migrains often occur to people who are bi-polar or who have otherwise out of whack serotonin levels (depressed people, etc).

I used to get migraines all the time. Took me a hell of a long time to figure out why. I finally discovered it was food allergies. I'd get a killer headache after protein shakes. I'm allergic to milk, eggs, whey, chocolate, and peanuts. Ah yes, and another one had me baffled for a while. Turns out they add sulfites to tuna. I'm allergic to those too. I'd get a killer headache after eating a can of tuna, and never could figure out why, until one day I accidently discovered on the web that they add sulfites.
