Splenda

DEATH to "The Club Boys"!
I just got some splenda the other day and WOW. This stuff tastes great. I can see what all the talk was about.

Can this stuff be abused? What would happen if I was to make koolaid or something like that where a lot of sugar is needed? This stuff has no calories and lees than one carb - but if you were to use a large quantity at once, would it be counter productive?

Will a lot of companies start using this sweetener? Like Hostess, Coke, etc? That would be sweet ;)

From what I have heard and read, sucralose (Splenda) is produced by chlorinating sugar (sucrose). This involves chemically changing the structure of the sugar molecules by substituting three chlorine atoms for three hydroxyl groups. Plasma sucralose has been reported to have a half-life of anywhere from 2 to 5 hours in most studies, although the half-life in rabbits was found to be much longer at about 36 hours. Now from what I have figured out, there haven’t been many studies done at all as is, and definalty no long-term studies. They have found that a bout 20% to 30% of absorbed sucralose is metabolized. Both the metabolites and unchanged absorbed sucralose are excreted in urine. The absorbed sucralose has been found to concentrate in the liver, kidney, and gastrointestinal tract. I also have heard that the product it breaks down into has not been adequately tested in humans as well. So take that for what it is worth.
As for large quanities, non-sugar products have not been 100% proven to help with weightloss but have been known to stimulate appetite. IMO splenda is stronger tasting htan sugar so if it is in koolaid, i would experiment but probalby try using half the amount if not less. I only put a 1/2 packet in my tea when usually i would use a full packet if not more of regular sugar.
Personally I love the stuff and I use it, but as with anything, I use it in moderation.

I use Splenda as well. I prefer it over the other sweeteners cuz it doesn't leave that gross poisin taste in your mouth. I think any sweetener in large quantities can't be good for you...hehehe...but if you're using it in moderation then you should be fine.:)

I love Splenda too. But I don't think that it is nearly as sweet as sugar. It's far better tasting than equal or sacrine.

I also love the stuff, when I have too much I get headaches, same with aspartame. I try not to drink too much diet pop becasue of this. Try not to abuse it or you may end up like me!
