Does anyone use Splenda as a sweetner in foods. Iam on a contest diet and I was wondering if it is the same as sugar. It says 0 carbs and 0 cals. Does it spike insulin levels though?

from what i know... (which isnt very much lol) it does because it is made from sugar... it also is linked to causing altzheimers... :(

its derived from sugar but will spike your insulin level the same as any other sweeteners would. I personally love the stuff!

its a better choice tha regular table sugar...i use splenda throughout my diet, 4 weeks out when i should be in decent shape, i start cutting that out and all spices with it...either way Motown, u know u should go by the mirror, heh

It would not be recommended to diabetics, if it spiked insulin considerably. It is recommended specifically because it causes a minimal rise. It's a great product, in my opinion.

Got any proof for this. I have heard bad things about it from word of mouth but never read anything.

it does contain dextrose and maltodextrin, which your body does metabolize. if i had to guess, i would say that one packet = 2 calories.

the fda has really, really shady guidelines. just look at the sticky on this page about net carbs or at the ostensibly 0 calorie non-stick spread. there are major loopholes that hopefully will be fixed in the near future.

Actually I don't believe it does spike your insulin levels which it why it is recommended for the Atkins diet. Aspartame and saccarin (you know what I'm trying to say...I can't spell :D) both spike your blood sugar level making your body create insulin which in turn makes you crave sweets.
