The Cheapest, Cleanest Food...

Eating at school is tough as hell with the funds. The cheapest and somewhat cleanest foods I have found so far are tuna fish, eggs, and ramen noodles. But I'm still lacking overall calories. What would you say is the cheapest, best, etc...food out there for someone with a tight budget?

I'm taking protein but my overall calorie #s are still low and I'd rather get them from regular food than from protein.

milk, whole eggs, nuts are pretty calorie dense, ground beef, olive oil.

oatmeal is good and cheap. not necesarily high calorie though.

When I was still going to school, I was bringing nuts, and a MRB. A question: Does where you go to school have microwaves in the cafeteria, or whatever passes for one?

Dump the ramen noodles they are not clean food. Stay away from processed crap-eggs are really cheap right now-they can be had for 99cents a dozen. Eat the whole egg-there is a lot of nutrition in the yolk. Drink lots of whole milk--if you are not lactose intolerant. Occasionally stores like Wal-Mart have beef jerky on sale-it is a bit too salty that is why I make my own but it is high in protein.

brown rice is cheap, tuna, eggs, pasta, ground beef all are cheap even some steaks are cheap as shit, find a little rich girl give it 2 her good and theres your foodshopping thats all I did when in school lol

Yea I dump the flavor packet out to avoid shitload of sodium. I usually eat it plain with a can of dranied tuna mixed in PWO. I eat plain oatmeal as well in the am.

So milk, eggs, tuna, plain pasta....Any meat freezer items that are cheap/ clean, maybe like veg beef pot pie or something meat? Figured I'd ask instead of having to look around forever at the store.

most frozen pre-made meals are filled with salt and other processed garbage--and dollar per dollar they are more expensive than cooking real food.

ditto on the ramen noodles, i'll eat a pack if that's all i have, but there is about 0% nutrition in them.
eggs, chicken, nuts, dried fruit (less the added sugar), beef jerkey (when I find it on sale),

oatmeal is great and If u just add water to the raw oats and sweetner, u r able to eat a lot more of it, calorie wise. Taste good too.

ditch the ramen noodles, they are absolute crap and full of hydrogenated oils. get a workstudy job and get foodstamps. i get 140.00 a month free!

Oats and Whey are cheap and can be bought in bulk
Eggs and Tuna are also inexpensive, but be cautious about the Mercury content
Fruits like apples aren't unreasonable
Skim or 2% Milk can be very economical when bulking
Peanut Butter provides easy calories and healthy fats at a low price

Personally I make Costco my best friend and eat ridiculous amounts of Oats and Eggs mixed together and cooked in the microwave. It makes a thick and satisfying oat/egg mixture. Top that off with a tall glass of milk and you're set with a quality meal.

the dollar menu at some of the fast food places can be not only cheap, but a good source of protien as well, for example WENDYS quarter pound double stack with cheese (no bun) with chili and baked potato plain. all the good carbs and protien yo skinny ass will need

this is what i tell my training clients- if you are trying to eat clean dont eat anything that comes with a label. of course this is just a "rule of thumb", but it works. and if you do your homework, you can make it economical. i'd set a weekly budget-post it- and work from there. if you have 200.00 a week to spend the reccomendations would be diffrent than if you only had 50 or 100.00 to spend. you have to adapt to your conditions.

How do you prepare and cook the oats/eggs mixture in microwave?

Thanks
