The Overhead Squat

When doing an overhead squat, is there a particular depth that you go to? Is it the same as a front / back squat, or is it less important on how deep you?!

Overhead squat ...?

Like holding a barbell over your head with your arm straight up and squatting?

Unless this is a sport specific exercise, I don't know why one would want to do this.

ha, sorry guys i should've given more info. It's a drill to help your snatch...in terms of once you've achieved the weight above your head & your arms are locked...as you stand up, that's an overheadsquat.

So you are going this to improve your powerlifting.

Now when you are stuck at the bottom doing the snatch, are you you not ass to the ground with the bar over your head?

If that's the case, why wouldn't you go "all the way down" each time you are doing overhead squats.

If its used to help get out of the bottom portion of the snatch, well you have to get back down there when doing OH squats.

i acheived a PB for the overhead squat today, a mere 50kg (or 110lb) for 3 reps. I went pretty deep & focused on keeping the bar a little further back than usual & was able to do it 'easily'. My training approach now is more of 'progressive overload' approach...so next time it'll be an attempt at 5 sets of triples @ 52.5
