i went to the gym for the first time last night and was gonna do chest and tris like i used to but obviously with the same weight i would do my first set with i use throughout my whole chest workout. i usually do 135 12 times i did it now only 5 times i was doing basically the 5*5 routine with the weight i would normally use as my first set. i couldnt even go through my workout i was soo tired and out of shape. i feel like shit because im way far from being back to normal again. what do you guys think i should do lower my weight to a point where i can do all my complete sets and reps like i used to but just with less weight.
thanks

im not really sure what ur saying..did u have an injury a long lay off?? either way dont worry the important thing is your back and make sure u stay!!!!!!!!if your trying to do 5x5 yes u should lower the weght so that you can complete all sets..especially if your jsut getting back inot the swing of things start light so that youre not plateauing in 3 weeks..

I wasnt injured at all i went to europe for 2 months. i took a really long break and i never used to do the 5*5 routine. i would usually do 10-8-6 (3) sets but i tried the 5*5 routine because i couldnt lift much more because i was so exauhsted. ive been lifting bout 2 years give or take.

Well, you need a game plan first.

If you want to do the 5*5 then do it and stick to it.

If you want to do something else, let us know so we can help.

I used to do the 10-8-6 routine, i did it for my first year of training and go great results. The only problem was that i did not time my breaks. I started too, and when i got into the grroove of like 45 sec to 1.5 min breaks, i found that the 5x5 method was a lot easier.

id suggest going on a full body routine, perform it 3x a week, best way to get back into the game imo, im currently doing one myself as a matter effect cuz i was prepping for a contest for a while then took some time off now im back into it

does that mean working out the same thing but of course the whole body 3 times a week till i get back where i left off?

After a layoff I usually return with a full body workout 3 times a week for at least 3 to 4 weeks. I have been cutting all summer doing more cardio and lighter weights, lots of bike riding, swimming and hiking, so getting back into the swing of heavy lifting takes a bit of adjustment.

I hope to be back into the swing of heavy squats and deadlifts by mid september when I resume my bulking routine. In the meantime I am also doing a full body workout 3 times a week, it is the best way to get your body to adjust.
