Weight training/Cardio training....

Golden_Muscle

Hybrid Athlete
I train with weights 5 days a week, so I have 2 off days. If I do cardio on those off days, will my body recover just as fast as if I sat on the couch for those two days?

Thanks.

honestly i don't know.

some people will say no, because if you are just resting ( not doing cardio) your muscles will have a better chance of recovery

others will say yes, believing that cardio will stimulate your CNS and aid recovery

personally I am a big fan of cardio, but I am trying to rip up, rather than just put on size and strength

what are your goals mate

My goals were to get big and strong as fast as possible, but thats not for me.

Now I want to gain strength, which means lean muscle mass only, and to stay as light as possible. The only weight I gain will be muscle.

well, if your diet is clean and perfect and you are training hard and getting enough sleep, i wouldn't worry about the cardio

Cool. Yeah, I wouldnt think cardio would really overtrain you, as long as it is not a 10 mile run, haha.
you would probably be fine by doing some high intensity interval running for like 20 minutes 2 to3 times a week. Probably not best to do it on rest days, but it probably won't kill you.

or slow paced treadmill/bike work for a hour or so . just dont expect to do balls to the walls cardio for several hours a week and it not cost you muscle

Personally, I wouldnt weightrain as much as 5 days a week unless I was on bodybuilding drugs or overfeeding or doing super low reps and super low sets. Usually I weightrain 3 days a week. Then again, if you are on bodybuilding drugs, I wouldnt think you would have to worry about cardio hurting you recovery either. I would agree that as long as you dont go over 20 minutes on the cardio, that should be enough rest. But you really should give yourself 1 day a week to rest from any exercise all together.
