whatman syringe filter question

This may be a dumb question and i apologize in advance if it is, but what is the difference between the material the solution is filtered through? I see different types of filters from whatman ranging in price, the materials are Nylon, Polyprophylene, and PTFE, are all of these different types of filter material? i know the pore sizes can be different, but im assuming a 13mm .45 polyprophelene is different from a 25mm .45 nylon filter. Is it just different in size, or does the material effect sterility, and if it does what filter would be best to use?

The different materials are in fact different filter materials. Different filter materials are used depending on what type of material you are filtering. For example, nylon wouldn't be appropriate for our uses.

would whatman PTFE filters not work for any reason ?

They will work, Ive used them before if I recall correctly. I try to stick with PVDF though.
