hey everyone, i was just sitting here thinking back earlier tonight to when it all started for me and thought i would start a thread to see how it happened for all you guys & girls. so just post up some info about how you got started in this game, if you came from other backgrounds, why you train now, how long its been, etc! think this could be a cool post, hope this is the right place for it! as for me i can remember being a little kid still in elementary school watching my dad and his brother workout. i would jump on the bench/machine and try to do the same thing, jumping rope, doing push ups, and shadow boxing to the first rocky soundtrack. my family has a history of fighting so i guess i was doomed from the start. i got started in martial arts in like second grade and kept with that studying two main styles and anything else i could try until i was about fourteen. from there i started boxing and that's where the love affair with weights started, i just wanted to get bigger and bigger and couldn't do it fast enough! i fought for a few years trying to find a balance between boxing and bodybuilding, talk about stress! i couldn't stand being small so i just kept trying to gain even when i found my self in a good weight class, long story short i had my first fight at 99lbs and went to heavyweight before taking a break from the sport. still train today but not fighting right now, but i guess i have to thank those other sports because it got me to the weight room! anyway that's how i got started in this great game and today i still train with the same mind frame to get as big as i can. so post you stories everyone and tell us your tale.

Started getting active due to the same reasons, Martial Arts. When I was about 9 I sat outside a dojo watching everyone and thought it was awesome. I was signed up the next week and began getting stronger and faster from there. It was'nt untill I was a senior in High School that i started to consider lifting weights. I was addicted for about 9 months then left it alone, still focusing on karate and skating. It was'nt for another 5 years that I got back into a gym. I had recently gone through a bad break-up and when your weighing in at 120lbs at 6' the opposite sex does'nt pay much attention to you. I signed up at a gym with the intention to get up to about 170 lean. It's been down hill from there and 4 years later i'm a gym addict, far past the 170 mark, and personal trainer. Why is it so addictive?
