my hemocrit is getting a little high so I'm going to donate blood and I was wondering is there a recommended time to do it like on the day before your test shot? or can you do it the day after your test shot does it make any difference?

yeah it seems that's what I'll be doing the next available appointment is Monday, I'm on a test shot E5D so that will be the 5th day

It doesn't matter. But the clinc will prolly require you to fast before donating.

He's talking about donating a pint of blood, not blood work.

Don't fast whatever you do.

If you fast before donating, your odds of passing out go way up. They always ask, and may tell you to come back after you eat something.

Guys, regarding donating blood. I need to do it too, but I am having issues finding out wehre to go. The red cross website does not seem to be up to date with local blood drives. And for me, the closest ones listed are 40 miles away. Does anyone know if Hospitals take blood directly? There has to be options that I am just naive about.

Just call your local red cross office and ask where the blood drives are. Or, in my case there is a group called "medic" near me that puts on drives all the time. When they are close to me, they call and ask me to donate. I'm O-, so that might be why.

I signed up with the redcross & got my donor card. I donate every 2 months. Hell they send me a card in the mail telling me where the drives are and they call me as well.

Donated yesterday. Went in, took 20 minutes because it was my first time. Felt tired yesterday, but feel better today than I have been.

I will donate every 2-3 months.

I just did mine for the first time 3 months ago. I did a double red blood cell donation through an ALYX machine. My hematocrit was 52 on my blood work a couple of months prior to donating and 50 on my blood work a week after. They will only let you donate every four months though. Im not 100% if the double blood cell donation is better or not but it seemed to drop my HCT into the acceptable range. It took about 20-30 minutes and I felt drained for a day or two after as well. If your in FL try floridasbloodcenters.org/fbc-locations/

With a standard blood donation, at least here, is 60 days between donations. I'll check to see how my level is when I get my next blood test.

just got back from donating i felt like i was going to pass out at the end lol (they said that type of feeling can happen your first time) they gave me some juice for my blood sugar, i had started sweating pretty bad at that point, was sweat all on my shirt but, as I started drinking the juice it went away and I started feeling normal. the whole thing was pretty easy and painless didn't take too much time, had brought headphones to pass the time. i'm feeling pretty much normal now, a little slow but, fine.

X2 this.
Fasting before donating blood is a good way to passout. Eat a small meal 1-2 hours before you give blood.
