Why do ab excersise?

It's just like any other muscle. It has to be worked to improve although someone who doesn't work them as much can have much more visible abs than someone who works them all the time just because they have less bodyfat. They also need to be strong which is why they need to be worked

Yep like dylan said its good to have a strong core when you do lifts like deadlifts, squats, etc.. But many bodybuilders dont train them or not often to keep the waist less bulky. But thats probably bro science. I believe in very high rep ab exercises with little to no added weights.

Thanks for the replies,
So we agree it's for core strength only?
I haven't worked them in a long time, I felt I get enough excersise from other excersises.
But I am considering adding abs back in.
How many excersises and how often would you guys recommend?

Well if they are really under developed they need to be larger so they will pop more. But mostly core strength.
I like doing them eod pre contest. Just some cruches, leg raises, and some obliques. Thats just me tho.

Well for me I get better results when I am working abs. When I do train abs I like to do a circuit with 5 different exercises, 3 for abs and 2 for obliques with 20 reps

Ab exercise has great benefits. It is best for physical strength and power. It makes bones and muscles strong. Try to do ab exercises. You will get great benefits.

Yes apart from the aesthetic point of view, any compound movement requires some extent of core strength (some more than others, and the requirement goes up as the weight goes up)

Mine are becoming more prominent by doing them after cardio sessions. I never used to do abs. Always did them as an afterthought which led to crappy workouts.
