Why do steroids help my auto-immune disease? Need advice PLEASE

I have a rare auto-immune disease that I was born with known as Familial med fever. It's a genetic mutation which causes you to randomly have inflammation of muscles, joints, etc and these attacks are very debilitating and painful. However, the disease is not life threatening but rather very difficult to live with.

I have weight trained for 10+ years, and I am taking the medication for this disease. About 2 years ago I started my first cycle of AAS and I was concerned about how my body would react, particularly if I would get any attacks from my FMF disease. I went on a cycle of Test-E and Deca, and to my utter surprise not only did I not get any attacks in the 2 months I ran my cycle but I felt amazing. I put on 20 lbs, and felt\looked great.

When I get off the test\deca, I immediately noticed all the symptoms returned. Feet swelling, hip pain, etc etc etc. About a year later, I did another cycle and this time I kept my eye on the situation. Again, a cycle of Test\Deca and again NO FMF symptoms. It's now been 7 months since I have done a cycle and my FMF is bugging me again. Attack after attack and I keep asking myself why I don't just get back on it because my body is not strong enough when I'm off.

I want to see a professional doctor about this, and heard of a steroid doctor who is very expensive but can help me. I might see him afterall, but I wanted your guys' input as to why this may be happening? Are steroids known for helping muscle or inflammatory diseases? I know corticosteroids are the anti-inflammatories but why do AAS work so well for me? What is the smartest, safest route I can take to enjoy the benefits of AAS without causing any sort of liver damage since I take my regular medication daily?

Thank you all and the advice you give can, will be life changing for me. I would highly appreciate it.
