theres really not alot of carbs (quaker oatmeal oats) 27g carbs 150cals 1/2 cup, ok maybe 1 cup would be better. but is oatmeal in a bulking diet more for bulking or because it lowers cholesterol, cause eating it for 30days will lower cholesterol its a fact! rook.

oatmeal binds to the acids of cholesterol along with the fiber than when passed through the body cholesterol leaves with it before it goes in the boodstream!

oATMEAL IS PROBALY ONE OF THE BEST BODYBUILDING COMPLEX CARB, UNLESS YOUR AN ENDOMORPH, OTHER CARB SOURCES ARE BETTER FOR BULKING SUCH AS:
-PASTA (WHOLE WHEAT)
-RICE(WHITE OR BASMATI)
-POTATOES
-BREAD (SEVEN GRAIN)
OATMEAL IS AWESOME BUT I USE IT MORE FOR DIETING, FOR BULKING UP YOU WANT A MEDIUM TO FAST DIGESTING CARB

why do you want a fast digesting carb for when you wake, what's your reasoning behind this?

Hey slick13 here is the easiest way to break down different bodytypes

endomorph- person who tends to carry more bodyfat and putting on size is easy

esomorph- person who is naturally muscular and it's easy for them to put on muscle

ectomorph- person who is naturally skinny and is a typical hard-gainer, hard to put on size or muscle

so if an endomorph is someone who is naturally a little more BF% and easy to gain size, then why would they need to eat something like pasta or rice? arent those higher calorie foods? so shouldnt an ectomorph be eating that stuff?

YEAH IF YOUR A ENDOMORPH STICK TO SLOW DIGESTING CARBS SUCH AS OATMEAL, BROWN RICE, SWEET POTATOES, SEVEN GRAIN BREAD, PRETTY MUCH YEAR ROUND

Some suggest it because when you wake, your blood sugar is very very low. A high GI carb would spike your insulin and if you know what you're doing you can make it work for you. IMO ANY carbs you intake will cause a decent spike at this time, just eat enough of em.

i have been told that you want some thing that will get in your system fast because of the long night you been sleeping....I usually throw down some whey, but DougE is right any carbs at this time will case a spike.

You have to eat a crapload of oatmeal to get in some calories, I eat two servings with brown sugar, sometimes 3 servings. There is so much water in oatmeal and rice that it becomes very heard to eat in volume multiple times in the day.

Its good for bulking or cutting, its a slow burner, get old fashioned not quick.

Who eats the packaged kind and who eats the old fashioned kind? any particular reason?

I eat the old fashioned kind. The packaged kinds have too much sugar in them. The sodium is higher in the package stuff too I believe.

i eat the package instant kind, only because i dont have access to the big tubs of old fashioned oats. i eat the regular flavor so that there isnt any sugar in there, but i think old fashioned is slightly lower in GI and has more fiber
