Will carbs slow down protein absorbtion?

bronx_brawla

People do...I don't.
Whats up people?

Recently a co-worker of mine told me the other day that he read that your body can't fully utilize portein and carbs fully when they are eatin' together. And if you where to eat any protein or carb source that you should eat it by itself and at different times so that your body can absorbe them adequetly. For example...If you where to eat steak and potatoes...the potatoes will slow down protein absorbtion due to the heavy consistancy and the carbs of the potatoes. Like the process the body takes and the energy it uses to break down the potatoes will somehow get in the way of breaking down the protein in the steak.

And the same thing goes with fruit. He said that he read that if you eat fruit by itself, it goes to your small intestine and then all the antioxidants and nutriants can be utilized.
I was kind of skeptical...so i questioned where he had read this from. And he said that its from top nutritionists in the country.
Can anybody with true knowledge of nutrition let me know if there is any truth to this?
Thanks in advance

the body digests in order:
1st: carbs
2nd: protien
3rd: fat

So does that mean that you can eat them in the same sitting?...Cuz this guys saying to eat ur protein and carbs in different sittings and time frames.

eat them together eat em apart...in the end it doesnt matter..
how far apart does he want you to eat em?

I'm guessing like a hour or two apart?

But my question is ...will one interfere with the others proper digestion and or absorption?

I've never heard anything like that, in fact I recall reading an article stating the opposite. This is especially true post workout.

For post workout meals/shakes you want to mix them. Protein helps stimulate the production of insulin which helps blood glucose get into the muscles to enhance glycogen replacement after a workout.

You need to eat protein and carbs togethor to grow. When you eat carbs your body produces insulin. You need the insulin to get the protein to where it needs to go. Eating protein by itself will not help your gains much, if at all.
