In terms of building muscle mass you need to include a lot of compound exercises. I would stick with heavy deadlifts and squats as the core movements. These exercises will shock your body the most because they hit so many muscle groups. Also make sure you're eating enough calories. Around 6-8...
I would say one of the best back exercises is heavy barbell rows. I've noticed a lot of growth from this exercise especially in terms of thickness and width. Definitely check out dorian yates' video "blood and guts" on back training, you can learn a lot from that video
