3 Times a week training

Hey guys ive been training for a while now since i was about 18, my training was terrible from 18-20 and had decent results but not great. I started to really get motivated and now bodybuilding is an important part of my life, im strict on my training, form and most important eating. Now from about 20 to 23 ive put on great gains in this time and im pretty happy but started to plateu a little. Regardless of gear or no gear my training and eating is always the same for me now which is why i have gained good quality muscle. i started at around 176 pounds and now sit around 230, im about 6'1. Now enough of my crap i will get to the point.
Ive been talking to a mate who use to compete, he told me that for someone who is a little more active then one who is not may struggle to gain quicker. I train 5 days a week each body part. His idea is for me to try training 3 times a week now to recover more and hopefully get that little bit more size. i play a game of basketball sunday nights and am on my feet most of the day but my job is not physically draining probably more mentally draining. The one body part that lacks is my chest more then anything else, The problem i have now is that it seems to fatigue after a couple of heavy sets. This is why im thinking cutting down the training to 3 times a week which may provide growth to my chest with more recovery and allow me to have a better training session on chest. I know everyone is different and no one can tell me what to do but i was wondering if anyone has tried a 3 time a week routine? and what were your results? If i have missed something please let me know...

And i was thinking
moday chest,triceps,bicep
wednesday legs,calves
friday back, shoulders,traps

quality not quantity. listen to your friend. i would do biceps on back day and throw shoulders on chest day.

Even training 5 days a weeks I've usually had good quality workouts but I think the recovery should definitely help with changing to 3 days a week. Still curious to hear if anyone has tried this and what they gained out of trying this. Thanks for the tip I was thinking to change to back and biceps but that's what my mate said to try. I think that's the way to go.

i,ve changed my training from 5 days down to 3 monday wednesday friday train hard these three days an by monday ur body is mad 2 get back 2 the gym,use saturday an sunday for rest an gettin in a few extra calories you should get great results in little time.

I think I need to carb up as much as possible before Sunday nights bball game which should help. Have you noticed size difference since you went to 3 days a week or just maintained? Regardless I'm gonna train hard so you would think that should pass maintaining... From what your saying with recovery, for me that would help because my body has been sore at times when I should of been resting.

i lift 4 days a week. mond wed fri back and bis/legs/chest tris and shoulders. saturday is olylifts. works great for me. rest and diet are THE most important things for growth. if you can't get done what you need to in 3 or 4 days then you need to go back to the drawing board. now is lifting 5 or 6 days a week good? can be, yeah. but like yousaid you've been doing this for a while. i think you'll see some great gains if you switch to 3 days a week for a few months. have you ever heard of dogg crap training? the creator says don't use it unless you have been in this game for a while. ya wanna know why i think it works so well for elite lifters and not beginners? because most guys have been going so hard for so long that backing off like the routine prescribes for 16 weeks or so is exactly what you need to grow. it's hard to stay out of the gym bro, i know. but train less and see what happens for a few months. good luck

Yeah it's gonna be weird not training as much but it sounds like this is the way to go for a couple of months, one thing I'm not looking forward to is when my mates ask me how's training going and I reply with I'm doing dog crap training lol thanks donjob
