5x5 for women?

Well I've almost convinced my girlfriend to try a 5x5 type routine (which I love, and have gotten countless guys hooked on it). She is slowly starting to come around that 20rep sets won't help her build much in the way of muscle. I've got her to try to train using 8-10 reps, using compound movements for a few weeks, and she was very pleased with the results, but has somehow been brainwashed into thinking she "needs" to be in the 15-20 rep zone for everything. argh.

Anyways, what are the thoughts out there on a 5x5 for ladies? Keep it the same as a male workout? If not, how should it be changed? She is going for the fitness look, not bodybuilding. Regardless, I think 7-8lbs of muscle would get her a long ways.

5X5 would be fine. The only way she'll gain alot of muscle is through diet anyways. 15-20 reps is useless for gaining muscle if you're doing it all the time.

The bodybuilding vs figure look is the amount of muscle gained. She wants to gain muscle she needs to eat. So regardless she'll be safe with the figure look unless she eats alot. I like 6-10 personally, but I think doing it your way would be fine. She should give it a try!

5x5 is fine for chicks. There really isn't much difference between men and women as far as training goes -- save the fact that women are generally weaker than men lb for lb upper body strength but are equal in lower

Someone who's producing little test, compared to higher level of test is a big difference in training=results. If a female is producing low ammounts of test, it would be harder to her to build muscle, and if she eats a shit load, she'll probably put on unwanted weight. So results she would be looking for is to just stay lean and in the high rep range to just lose fat and maintain instead of trying to gain muscle.

That is the difference IMO I see between the two, as far as what kind of results can be accomplished.

THanks for the posts, I'll modify a 5x5 to suit her and see what happens. She'll hate me for being sore all the time :)
