i'm only on month 3 and i started at 40mg/day but my doc says i will be up to 80mg next month, so i figure you keep going up. then he says you have to stop for 6 months cause that's how long it lasts in your system if you "cycle" it right - his words! soo far, this method is working
I am on accutane and according to my dermatologist your dosage depends on your body weight. The dosage should never exceed 1mg per KG of body weight. Your average dosage is about 0.5mg per kg of body weight. In general they take your body weight and then perform a calculation which gives you the total amount of accutane that you need to take in over a 6 month period. This figure is then devided by (6months x 30 days) to determine your daily dose. This is recommended for it to have an effect on your subaceous glands. Using anything less may cause your body to break out again as soon as you come off the accutane. Accutane is only active in your system for 1 month after you stop taking it.
i was told 6... unless i misunderstood the information i was given. i do know that they are going to take me off for the 6 months though and then possibly restart again if the acne comes back. i'm due for another appointment on thursday, so i'll see what other info i can get.
expensive is an understatement... even with my insurance i couldn't afford name-brand. i went with generic which supposedly doesn't work as well, but it only costs me $10/month for anything generic. i think it's working great soo far.
The whole idea with accutane is that is supposed to have a permanent effect on your subaceous glands but taking gear will just increase the liklihood of an outbreak when you stop taking the accutane. I have found that 40mg seems to keep my skin clear (doc recommended 70mg/day but that dried my skin out to the point where it was pealing and burning like hell) I'm just going to use it to keep my skin from becoming too oily while on AS.
