Anxiety Evaluation

I am going to a psychiatrist for the first time because I'm having trouble with anxiety. I'm also clostrophobic and some other wierd things going on. This has been building for a long time, well before steroid use. But my question is what to expect in my doctor visit. Are they going to do blood work? Should I be concerned that I am on a dbol/test cycle right now? Should I just tell him what I'm on. I want to be honest to some extent because I need help. I'm worried that they will dismiss my problems as a steroid problem and just tell me to get off them. Anyone else go through this. What meds are most effective for this and what are the worst? My appt is tomorrow morning. Can someone give me some insight?

I have had similar bouts with this sort of thing. I dont think you need to tell the doctor about your gear as it doesnt have anything to do with your anxiety. They usually dont do any bloodwork, unless they are going to put you on some sort of medication that would require a baseline for liver function. I dont believe this will be the case though. The doctor will just sit with you and ask you questions, sort of a test of sorts, and get a basic history on you. You may however want to run the meds he prescibes you throught some of the docs here to make sure there are no contraindications. Good luck with the appointment.

Your Psychiatrist will more than likely discuss your symptoms with you and then write a script for an anti-anxiety (most likely Klonopin or Xanax...or some other Benzodiazepam). These drugs help take the edge off the anxiety quite fast and effectively, but they also have some side affects....primarily sleepiness, drowsiness, and dizziness (not good for lifting). Check out www.webmd.com for more info on these drugs.
Additionally, Psychiatrists are scripting SSRI's/anti-depressants (Zoloft, Prozac, Wellbutrin, etc.) for anxiety relief as well. They also have some side effects, but may help with your situation. I personally know several AS users that take SSRI's after completion of their cycle because their Serotonin is depleted after taking large amounts of gear (this can happen). Thus, your Psychiatrist may indeed link your anxiety to your hormone use, and may also want you to see an Internist or Endocrinologist for blood work/values. I would recommend that you see one as well to have blood work done (every 6 months at the least if gearing). Hope this helps!
