Best carb source for post workout shake?

Sorry if this subject has been covered before.
What's the best carb source to add to a shake post workout??
Some say Gatorade, but high in sugar.
I've heard about dextrose but that sounds just like sugar also.
What about maltodextrin (sic) ???
I've only been taking in the straight protein in a shake after the training, so I know I need the carb w/it.
 
Take some waxy maise starch mixed in water immediately after your workout.

Then 20 minutes later you can do up a shake with some fruit or dextrose or honey, or any other carb source you want.
 
dextrose is fine, so is waxy....

you dont want maldextrin becuase its a slow acting carb, if anything u would want that pre work out
 
dextrose is garbage so is malto--there are so many better choices.

You could always just have a meal after working out---meat\carbs\veggies
 
Waxy maize starch before and during as well as immediately after. I take my BCAA's, L-leucine, creatine, and taurine with my pwo carb shake, and then 20 minutes later I take a 50-75 gram protein shake. I buy everything in bulk from Trueprotein so it isn't that expensive and very very effective.
 
Waxy Maize Starch immediately PW, then 20 minutes later, a cup of oats and 50g protein done in a blender......um, um good.
 
I do the oats in the shake for breakfast usually because it's the only way I can eat them. I only half a cup though and always drink it out of a shaker cup so I can keep the oats evenly distributed. Is it just me or does waxy maize as gross as it is start to taste good after a while?
 
What the hell is waxy maize?? Never heard of it. And why the big time sequence? Don't you want the protien immediately after?
I've been mixing oatmeal in my post shake the past week.

The reason for timing them like that is due to the characteristics of waxy maize. It is ahigh molecular weight carb and therefore makes it's way quickly through the gut to be absorbed by the small intestine. It also has the ability to bring things it is taken with through as well so that is why I mix in the BCAA's and L-Leucine as well as some creatine and usually a scoop of benefiber or something. The protein is taken 20 minutes later because the waxy maize should make up 75% or more of the total composition of the shake for it's effects to be optimized. You also minimize catabolism by adding in the BCAA's and such. I drink a protein shake which for me is a mix of 50% whey concentrate and 50% whey isolate cold-filtration in water. If you mix oats or even maybe some milk with your PWO shake you may mess with the fast digesting nature of the whey seeing as how oats digest very slowly and milk protein is mostly casein if I'm not mistaken. Then an hour or so later I have a high protein moderate carb meal.
 
so if i was to use 2-3 scoops of whey isolate, how much waxy shit should i use. and can u tell me in scoops cause im slow.

If you use WMS then do not use WMS and whey isolate , use 50-80g of WMS and 20g of hydrolyzed whey protein , but best choice is to take WMS 50-80g and 15g of BCAA and 15-30min after take whey protein

this all sounds too complicated for me markoni. im sure i can figure it out, but is it really that much better than dextrose and whey?

yes much much better , this is best way , I used to drink dextrose and whey for my PWO but then I tried this , and now I dont want to go back to dextrose whey mix

why complicated , just mix WMS 60g and 15g BCAA , and 15-30min after take whey protein , its easy

second option , good option is hydrolyzed whey and maltodextrine for PWO , but first is better option

also you can create your own mix at trueprotein.com , use their costume mix and create mix you like
 
can sombody explain why its bad to mix wazy maize and whey isolate?

and if your supposed to take the wms alone then take whatever protein you wish?
 
it's not bad but in order to get the full effect of the waxyy maize, you want to make sure it makes up 75% or more of the total shake. If you add the protein to the same shake it will throw this off. I sip on a waxy maze shake throughout my workout and I always have th energy for my widowmaker now.
