Better Pump

I have really liked doing pushups from the top of chairs. I place one chair at my feet and two chairs , one for each hand, in a shoulder width position by my head. This is as if i am doing regular pushups. I have noticed that i get a much better pump from doing this exercise than doing free weights. Should i alternate these two types of workouts. For example do the "hanging pushups" one week and do the free weight chest routine the next.
 
The pump you get is from flooding your muscle with blood. This is good but to build muscle you need resistance. Resistance training is what builds muscle. If you are not getting a good enough pump with free weights you might check the amount of weight you are using. Might be to much and you are incorporating your stabilizer muscles to much…tris, shoulders, etc. Maybe back off the weight a bit and really focus on your chest doing the work.
