Big Guys and APNEA

Every male bodybuilder friend I have tends to be big, have sleeping problems, and all have sleep apnea. One got his uvula chopped out and tonsils/adnoids removed which luckily did the trick. btw: this was a horribly painful experience...He's a tough guy and says he was in excruciating pain for 2 weeks while things shrunk, stretched, and healed.
The second guy is trying to wear the cpap mask and nap sitting up. He's been told he needs to have his jaw shaved and moved a few millimeters, another doctor says don't do it, and another recommends shaving the tongue. Nobody has a great answer.
The third guy is younger and hasn't done anything about it yet.
The problem gets to be the lack of oxygen during sleep. This deprives the heart of the oxygen it needs, and could lead to a heart attack or other health concerns in the future when the body is older and less resilient.
Why this post? You guys are big, strong. You like to be big. I can't say I don't enjoy the large physiques or feeling small next to a nearly indestructible man. But at what cost? Having a leaner frame with a more GQ physique may be healthier. The shear weight of the soft tissue in your throat when you lie down to sleep is a problem with a thick bodybuilder. Couple that with the sleeping disorders...
If anyone has had a useful treatment please post it here. I'm sure there are a lot of big guys who would appreciate some guidance. Its a terrible feeling to know there's something wrong with you, something has to be done, but even the doctors can't provide the best option.

What's your solution? My friend with the cpap machine hates using it...almost can't. He says it gives him a feeling of claustrophobia which I can understand. His dog is afraid to be in the bedroom when he gets all "hooked up" to the machine for the night.
He says his tongue shaving option and jaw moving option were never reinforced as good options by any of the doctors, yet the doctors arent giving him a solution. just saying "this is a problem you need to fix" but then saying "we really don't know what to do for you except tell you to use the machine".
I'm actually surprised there's only one reply. I bet most of the bodybuilders over 200 have apnea to some degree. insomnia, apnea, snoring, sleeping issues. what are you guys doing?

Dread Pirate sorry for your loss, I used to have a minor sleep apnea when I was like 300+ for a while in 06 and it was the worst year of my life. Memories waking up in the middle of the night literally gasping for air, that shit could scare the fuck out of any grown man. Physically it puts you through the ringer but mentally is even worse! Besides losing like 80 lbs (dr's orders) I wouldnt touch a cpap but switched up sleeping positions.. Sleep on your side or your stomach and you'll notice way better breathing, atleast in my case. Anyone that suspects they have an apnea though or some breathing condition do yourself a fav sign up for a 1 night sleep study, you really could be doing your training a favor and saving your life

I told my friend with the cpap machine I posted this thread about him. He's interested in knowing what the rest of you guys are doing..I KNOW you guys have insomnia so please drop a message!

I only get 4-5 hrs sleep a night as well, but I just assume it's because i switch from nights to days at work quite often. When i feel i need a good sleep, i take my wifes flexerol. Knocks me out for a good 8hrs. However sometimes I am up for 36hrs straight, maybe it's all the n o explode. and shit like that .

A) could be from a cycle (testosterone will keep you up all night)
B) cut back on the supplements (contain tons of caffeine)

I had my uvula chopped out and tonsils/adnoids removed. this helped for a little while, but it's been almost 1 year, and I'm back to just as bad as I was before. My uvula was shaved, and not chopped all the way out, but yep, it sucks. I'm 6ft tall and 270. I'm gonna go get the sleep study done and stuff. It was very painful shit when I had it done, I lost 20 pounds because i couldn't eat. And I have a high pain tolerance!!
