birth control pill safety?

Hey just curious, my girlfriend is moving from the patch to the pill. I know that most oral steroid hormones for men...anavar, dianabol are toxic to the liver. I did a little search and could not find any info on this, however, I assume estrogen in pill form is totally safe as they are used by millions of women. Is there any sort of toxicity she should be aware of?

Hi Slair,

Each method of birth control comes with it's own set of pro's & con's,

The primary mechanism of action of all the birth control pills is to prevent the ovulation, so basically when higher levels of estrogen and progesterone are maintained by oral dosage, Then ovulation would not occur.

Side effects are common after starting the pill as the body tries to initially adjust to increased estrogen and progesterone levels,

Nausia
Irregular menstrual cycles (most women report having shorter periods & less cramping)
Tenderness of breasts
Loss of libido
Some weight gain (due to liquid retention)
Bloating
Mood swings

I've never felt any symptoms while taking birth control, it really depends on genetic, medical history, usage patterns and duration of usage.

As far I have read there's no risk of toxicity, but she should monitor herself, if she's been on the patch and she's done good, she should do good on the pill, The patch & the pill contain the same hormones in the same doses.

Is really a personal choice, if she suffers from PMS then she would benefit from birth control, the patch doesn't help with this.

thanks for the great info and quick response, glad to know its not toxic to the liver for her!

Can't add much more than that LOL but apples to apples... the pill is considered safer than the patch.

I got an IUD about 4 months ago, its awesome! Have her look into every option that is available.

Here is a good site IUD Divas Just about every method of BC is discussed on that site and it is not funded by any drug company.

my wife and i just recently donated 6 months of pills to a friend of ours b/c of all of the above..

we happen to be working towards our 2nd child .. but after that happens we r going to need another form of birth control. she doesnt want to get back on the pill b/c the ones shes has tried have yielded the same results...

are the same sides an issue with the IUD??
... i would go just get my nuts tied .. but we are not sure if we want a third as of yet .. lol..

I had cramping for a few hours after but other than that the only side effect is that I no longer get a period. But I am fine with that.

I had all of those when I was on the Depo shot, pill and patch. But so far, I have had no bad side effects with the IUD. But it hurt like a mofo when I got it put in, I cant lie about that. Since she has had kids it will be a lot easier for her.

1000mg of Evening Primrose Oil everyday will help with breast tenderness. I took it for a long time and it worked wonders.

Most doctors won't offer IUDs to women who have not had a baby before. There is a very small risk of infertility due to complications. I've had two and just love them and recommend them to anyone who is able to use one.

Did they put it in while you were on your period? When you change yours out make SURE they do this... it cuts the pain factor in half because the cervix is slightly open. (not sure if your cervix opens or not if you don't have a period... LOL...)
