Bit of advice please, is it possible for me to take steroids?

When ever you're felling down, just remember I'm older, closer to death, shorter, weaker, and fatter than you. AND, you have a pineapple under the sea.

Dude, it's all about having that pineapple.

Thanks guys, I am in the UK/England, not sure what the docs are like around here on steroid use etc, and if I was low on test the NHS would sort me out no problem :)

I am considering having a chat with the docs to see what they think, bit I have a feeling they would say don't do it wether I had a heart problem or not.

You can always hear them out and see what their reasons are. If they say no, you don't have to listen to them, but they might have some important info about your condition, so it seems worth it.

Hi Doc, I am thinking of taking steroids, what do you think? well I think it is a terrible idea don't do it... OK doc I won't, oh by the way, I think I have low testosterone!

:P

Yup. That's the problem. I'm in the same boat, I'm considering starting self prescribed testosterone replacement therapy (TRT), but I want my doc to know, but I don't what him to know. I'll see him in a month or two, not sure what I'm going to say to him yet.

I would advise against steroids because of your heart condition and the fact that you are already taking meds to combat or prevent further disease.
Your GP has a duty to you as a patient but also has to work within the confines of the NHS etc..
Be careful mentioning steroids if you have health insurance/BUPA/etc too..

My personal view would be for you to first focus on ways to increase your physiological health before you focus exclusively on your physical or outside appearance. You should also consider where you want this to take you or where you want to be in x years time. A lot of people rush into the steroids route without learning or putting in the work to get to a certain level.

You haven't stated which meds you are on but if at all possible it would be best to find ways to wean yourself off some of the meds or to keep dosages low if safe to do so and under supervision of a medical professional.

Well I have one narrow artery, but it was borderline to get a stent, and due to my age they left me and monitored me closely, that was 9 years ago, and I no longer see the specialist every 6 months, my physiological health is as it is, having had a heart attack part of the heart that was starved of oxygen dies, it won't repair itself, it is what it is.

As for drugs I am on, aspirin to thin my blood a bit, valsartan to help keep blood pressure low, but I have never had high blood pressure anyway, even during the heart attack my blood pressure was fine, I am also on a statin for cholesterol but again that has always been fine, and lastly I am on some meds to help stop heart burn (acid reflux) that the other meds cause.

Pretty much all of my drugs are preventative rather than proactively trying to fix something.

Oh also wanted to add I am in no way rushing into anything, I have full intention of lifting for a year or more yet before I would consider taking anything even if I could, I am in no rush, this right here is the research part :)

Not looking to take steroids to get gains quickly, I was thinking ahead when I have lifted for 2/3 years and gains have grinded to an almost stop, to break through and see what I am capable of, I would like to get big, I am naturally a big guy, my wrists are big I can't get anywhere near to reaching around them with fingers, I can;t even buy a watch as the straps are always in inch or so too short, I have always been strong, always put muscle on easily, I would say my genetics are pretty good, I would just like to see what I could do with it :)

But I do have a wife and kids, and if the risk is much higher than it would be otherwise I won't do it.

One of the major concerns would be hypertension - once developed it's a slippery slope that leads to a number of downstream pathologies, and with the scar tissue already in your heart its a recipe for disaster.

Good luck with your research and with what you decide, but be sure to always get a second opinion from a medical professional and not just from people who have used steroids or plan to use them, whilst there is a wealth of experience on this board you also need advice from somebody who knows their drug interactions and medicine/endocrinology. Even then, Drs disagree with each other!
