BJ Penn vs Shawn Sherk in November

Sherk is suspended for a year. The normal protocall is to have an open title fight with the 2 highest ranked guys. It will be BJ and someone. Kenny Florian, Joe Stevenson, or Spencer Fisher are my guessed. My money would be on Fisher because his last fight was so amazing. I think BJ will beat all 3 of them.

I think it would be cool if they did a Grand Prix type deal like Pride had to determine the new champ.

I never understood why the hell the put Kenny Florian in the first title fight.

If they do go with 1 & 2, my money is BJ and Joe Stevenson. I don't think Fisher will get it due to his recent loss to Franca and Kenny already had his shot.

Yeah BJ should make quick work of any of those guys but Fisher is the best matchup.

I think BJ will be untouchable at LW, but it doesn't sound like he wants to fight at 155. He's a great striker, great BJJ, and one of the best takedown defences. The top 170lbs guys had a tough time with BJ, so I don't know how the LW will fair against him.

I would like to see Ken Flo and Joe Stevenson fight and the winner get a title shot with BJ.

anything ive read so far on sherk is they havent ruled on him yet,
because he has contested it for something,

Looking at the LW division, there is no one close to sherk..... not even 1 percent close whatever that means

As Matt hughes proved fight after fight, if you can be bigger/stronger than everyone in your weight class you should have no problem laying on them.

Sherk contested the results and will be suspended until the hearing but his title hasn't been stripped yet. The Nevada Athletic commission isn't gonna go for his " I just have high levels" bullshit. It's no secret that just about every dude in the UFC is on. Myself and the other people I know that are fight fans and juice could care less, but you average fan now is a beer drinking college kid or a cubicle working weekend warrior who get's really offended when this happens. Until the UFC implements random test's, I don't blame these guys. Just like Baseball, when juice wasn't outlawed a lot of players took it. Good for them, they hit a lot of homers and made millions. If my job tested I wouldn't juice but they don't so I do. It's the same for athletes. I'm an athletic guy who likes being bigger, faster and stronger and until some guy comes to my door and say's, I'm gonna start testing you for juice starting now, I'm gonna keep doing it, just like any athlete who makes their living being the best.

I dont this this fight will happen sherk is wasting time everyones time apealing .Bj is focused I dont think anyone will stop him

the fight won't happen now, but assuming it did, there's no chance of shawn sherk being able to "lay-on" BJ Penn and win this fight. If he tries to win this fight on the ground, he'll get submitted in about 2.5. Striking would be his only chance, and i'm pretty sure those chances are almost completely gone. He has great punching power, so there's always a chance, but BJ Penn is a "better" striker.

Nah, I could easily see him wearing BJ out. He doesn't have much for stamina. And lol @ him getting submitted in 2.5. You must not have watched the Franca Match.

who cares this mma stuff is nothing but a bunch of converted highschool wrestlers that have very limited stand up.and dont have the athleticism to be boxers so they do this.

Truth of the matter is that MMA guys are just better fighters. Boxing isn't fighting. It's throwing hands. Yes, there is still skill involved but it is very one dimensional. MMA has so many aspects. With boxing you have a right hand and a left hand and that's it. There's nothing else to account for. You stand up and exchange fisticuffs. But with MMA you have to account for hands, forearms, elbows, feet, legs, and knees. And that's just striking. There's grappling on your feet, as in Greco-Roman style positioning. And then there is grappling on the ground. So in the end you are dealing with a much more well rounded fighter. Boxers aren't fighters. They're boxers. MMA is competition between real fighters. So what if they don't have the boxing skills of a boxer. Well when there are a million other things to train and be familiar with, you can't spend all day every day on boxing skills. But in the end this could all be settled if some big name boxers would accept Dana's open invitation to fight his guys. Yeah, Mayweather is a great boxer and athlete. But he's also a pussy who is afraid to step in the ring with Sherk. He's turned down the offer multiple times. All he does is sit back and run his mouth, talking shit about MMA. But in the end he can't back any of it up. None of the other top name boxers would do it either. Bc they know it would take all of two seconds for the MMA guy to shoot in, take him to the ground, and pound the shit out of him with some nasty elbows. And then once he's softened up, bend his body into a pretzel with any number of submissions. Pugilistic enterprise has shifted completely towards MMA. Boxing is done. There's no variety. It's just round after round of guys throwing fists with a mile of padding in between the two. Sure it requires skill, but MMA requires more skill. There's just a million times more to account for.

the level of skill required to box at a high level is much higher than in mma, top level boxers have incredible reflexes timing and instinct, they are fighters, that fact that boxers are moving in to mma proves my point, they cant make it at a high level boxing so they turn to mma, as far as mayweather goes why would he ever fight sherk for even a million bucks, when he can fight de la hoya for 25 mil....it doesnt make sence...dont get me wrong i love mma and i think its a great sport that will eventually have atheltes as good as boxing but right now it doesnt....i also do both so i have no bias either way.....just my call

Most people only care about who the better man is, period. And MMA is the only combat sport that truly matches a fighter against a fighter. Is Mayweather one hell of an athlete? Fuck yeah. If he got in a street fight with Sherk would Sherk rape his ass? Fuck yeah, bc Sherk is the better fighter. He'd dive in on Mayweather, pull him to the ground, and make him eat elbows till sunrise. MMA allows fighters to actually use their talents in a way to exploit their opponents weakness. If you have stronger stand up skills then you try to keep the fight on your feet and stuff the take downs. If you have stronger ground skills you can shoot in for the take down. But with boxing you are simply standing up and using only two weapons to hit your opponent. In MMA though there are numerous possibilities for an attack, not just two punching hands. It shows a person's well rounded pugilistic skills. Not just their ability to have quick hands.
