Blood Pressure 177! Why?

Around June 1st I checked my blood pressure and it was 177/86. At about the same time I started a new fitness/cutting diet and yesterday my BP was 139/82. Did my blood pressure drop from dieting??? Throughout my 20's my BP was always in the 150 range. Any thoughts? I was only eating out maybe 1-3 times a week before this diet. I plan on checking my BP again tonight after workout.

Nicotine user? A 38 point fluctuation is pretty crazy and I don't think a simple change in diet could cause this unless you downed a bottle of salt. I do know that stress in your life can impact your blood pressure, but that's a HUGE spike. It might be time to visit the doc man, I wouldn't panic over 177/86, but it's not healthy to remain there for extended periods of time.

My .02c :)

Nicotine user here and yes it messes with BP :(

Yep, I smoke. That week I had this ridiculous project due for work that was really stressing me. Since starting this diet I have quit smoking a lot less and am trying my hardest to quit completely. But, do you think it was just nicotine and stress? Certain foods I should stay away from?

Yep, and you're not alone. ;) How else do you think I know it messes with bp? :p Just can't put down the Kodiak chew man, it's my last vice in this world! Well, okay porn and AAS notwithstanding!

Yep, those can most certainly do that. I'd stay away from high levels of sodium period. Sure you need *some*, but anything that makes you retain water is no bueno for your blood pressure. :)

I've been able to cut my vices mostly. No more rec's, drinking (very very rare even off cycle), partying, porn (prefer I find a hot girl to help with that ;)). I still smoke cigarettes, occasional cigar, and my happy remedy lol.

Thanks a lot! for the info guys. I was having some serious breathing issues and I felt like I was gonna have a stroke but ever since this diet and cutting down on smoking I've felt about 80% better and my BP is at a much healthier level. I seriously think it may have been the smoking now that you guys mention it because I didn't have a clue what was causing it. I'm gonna continue to cut down. I think nicotine mixed with my old eating habits could have landed me in the hospital so thanks again guys. Big ups to this board!

i know a bunch of people will not like what i have to say , but if you use a pre-workout supp like NO explode or worse , jacked, you can be almost certain thats what is causeing it... HOWEVER. my bp always goes up when i cycle. it could be the sodium retention or estrogen causing fluid retention as well , that would happen if you are not taking an Aromatase inhibitor (AI). shitty diet will make your Bp go up high too.. i blame muscle mags for not stressing the importance of monitoring your sodium intake when eating the amount that us bodybuilders eat. get it under control high bp is never to be taken lightly

just read thru the other posts... ya smoking will do it. cut down if you can bro... i know how hard it is to quit , seen my pops try to several times.. he just cant get past day `10... good luck

it definitely wasn't gear because I wasn't on a cycle but that good info to know. I did have a high sodium intake as well(lunch meat).
