Blood Test Timing question

So, I'm two injections into testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) with my family doc, not the best option I know, but that's where I'm at. Doc has me on 100mg Test Cyp every two weeks. (I suspect from reading this forum I already know more about testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) than the doc does!)

Anyway, they want to re-test me after the 6th injection. Since they are clueless, when should I get the test? I guessing as late after the 6th injection as possible?

It is customary to get your blood work done at your trough. So that would be on the day of your 7th injection but before you actually do that injection. The day before would be fine too for convenience.

So after doing your homework here, I am sure you already know that injecting once every two weeks is bad, bad, bad, bad. Right? Inject at least once a week. Twice a week is better but it would be hard to only measure 25mg (it works better at higher doses). More frequent injecting keeps you Test levels more even and reduces aromatization.

How are you feeling?

P.S. I go through my Family Doc too. I like him. He listens to me and is willing to work with me. He isn't an expert on testosterone replacement therapy (TRT), but he writes the script for me. I've got the guys on this forum to help me out with the rest. :-)

But if you Family Doc doesn't work with you and turns out to be a clown, don't be afraid to call the guys at IMT. They will take great care of you. They know what they are doing. Just read all their fabulous reviews from the guys on this forum that use them. I would call them in a second if this didn't work out with my Family Doc whom I have been seeing for the last 20 years.

I have to tread carefully, my wife is a physican and old school, so she is leary of IMT internet types. I've been working on her and she may come around. She has agreed to pin me once I get dialed in and has agreed to do it once a week as well. I just have to get past this initial period.

And so far, other than morning wood is back I'm not feeling much of anything. I understand it can take a while.

If she is a doc why would she let you run such a bad protocol? Tell her to hit the books.

^^^this. Once a week injections are a thing of the past. Ask around, almost all would prefer twice weekly injections splitting the weekly dosage.

She's a dermatologist, this stuff is not her area. We're working on it.

Did she go to medical school? :-)

Just keep reading everything you can here in the testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) forum. Lots of docs need their hands held when it comes to TRT. They often follow really old protocols, like injecting once every two weeks. And they often don't understand how estradiol works in men on TRT.

Make sure you donate blood too regularly. Your hematocrit is going to increase on TRT. You can donate every 56 days.

Is there a stickie somewhere "TRT for low information doctors?" :)

I wish this were the case, unfortunately there is not. Even if there was that wouldn't help too much, that would just get them started. The real value lies within experience, there is no other way to understand TRT.

To put it simply, I personally wouldn't put my faith in ANYONE, Dr or not, if they were not on TRT. There is no way possible to imagine it, experience is the only way. Education certainly helps, but it is merely the foundation.

Either way you have to get off the every 2 week injections, your going to do more harm than good.

The reason doctors prescribe it that way is because the text they are reading is ancient and refers to the half-life being 12-14 days, we have learned a ton since this was believed to be correct.

Hope this helps and good luck, you should get your wife to post on the board, I would be more than happy to answer her questions politely and refer to peer reviewed medical literature when posting my comments :)
