Bonds implicated for steriods

SAN FRANCISCO -- Barry Bonds' personal trainer says in a secretly recorded conversation that the record-breaking slugger used an undetectable performance-enhancing drug during the 2003 season, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

In an article published Saturday, the Chronicle reports that Greg Anderson, Bonds' boyhood friend and a defendant in the BALCO steroids conspiracy case, provided Bonds with steroids that could be taken the day of a test and still not be detected.

The Chronicle reports that it received the recording from a source familiar with Anderson who asked not to be indentified, and that two people who know Anderson listened to the tapes and said the voice is his.

The paper does not identify the other voices on the recording or report who made the recording and the circumstances under which it was made.

Anderson's attorney, J. Tony Serra, said Friday that Anderson "categorically denies" providing Bonds with illegal substances. After listening to portions of the recording, Serra said he couldn't identify the voice as Anderson's.

Bonds' attorney, Michael Rains, said "this is as simply another below-the-belt bash of Barry Bonds, which as I understand it is supposedly the product of what has to be an illegally recorded telephone conversation supposedly between Greg Anderson and an anonymous criminal."

Asked for comment Friday by the Chronicle about Bonds' alleged use of banned drugs, Rob Manfred, a Major League Baseball executive vice president, said, "... Whether or not he was using an undetectable performance-enhancing substance, I and the commissioner will have no comment."

In the recording, the person said to be Anderson says that not only is the substance provided Bonds undetectable, but that through contacts in the testing labs, he would know when Bonds was going to be tested, a claim that Manfred refuted.

During the 9-minute, 19-second recording, there are background conversations that can't be made out, and some of Anderson's comments are not audible, according to the Chronicle. However, the newspaper reports that many of Anderson's comments make it clear that the subject of the conversation is Bonds.

Bonds has also been a subject of interest to federal investigators probing the BALCO lab in Burlingame, Calif., and international sports-doping, the Chronicle notes. On the recording, Anderson indicates that the drug he was giving Bonds was the same as the drug being used by unnamed Olympians who had passed multiple drug tests.

Anderson, BALCO founder Victor Conte and two other men were indicted in February on steroid conspiracy charges for allegedly distributing drugs that included a supposedly undetectable steroid called "the clear" to stars of baseball, the National Football League and Olympic track and field. They have pleaded not guilty.

NO SHIT!

Damn and all this time I thought he was natural.... lol

The media sucks and so does the government...

Of course he used a performance enhancing substance as do an extremely high percentage of all COMPETITIVE athletes... It's reality.

I really hope Bonds gets busted for using gear.

I'm really sick of the preachy ass athletes who say their dedication and hard work made them what they are today when for a good chunk of athletes the gear is what saves their ass after an offseason of binging and partying.

REally.....maybe you need busted. You think these guys are supposed to run wide open and be honest and face the bullshit?

I know this is a flame free board but I think you have one goddamn ignorant ass child opinion that's about like the rest of the general population.

I give a shit less about the guy!!! But here's what I think of that ignorant comment about peoople needing to be busted :madflip:

What would you say if you were a high profile athelete?

BTW I wonder if your another one of these guys who juices and still has accomplished nothing in life. On top of that I wonder if you're also another one of these guys that juices and still looks like shit!!!
Half the pix I see on BB boards I think. " Christ I wouldn't be admitting using juice & showing a pic if I looked that damn shitty."

This is the most ignorant comment I've seen on this board in months... Do you really think that Bonds doesn't work hard or isn't commited... I don't know about you but I could shoot 5g/day of EVERYTHING and still not hit a 95mph fastball let alone all the other shit that guy sees come at him... He is barely pitched to and yet hits well over 300 every year... Steroids have NOTHING to do with that! HARDWORK AND DEDICATION ARE THE ONLY THINGS THAT CAN ACCOUNT FOR HIS BATTING AVERAGE.... Now the fact that half his homers splash into the bay... OK... Juice has some affect on that... But please if you think that Professional athletes, at the top of their game, need gear to save their asses you are very ignorant and extremely nieve... It is used to enhance and already incredible abiltiy to play the game....

What fucked up quote you have up there.... I feel sorry for your warped views.

Couldn't have said it better and I wish the guy was banned for the mere fact he thinks it's good that people get busted.:chainsaw: :destroy: :shoot: :shoot5: :uzi:

I wonder what the hell he is doing on a bb building board . DEA? Or just totally ignorant and needs to go lay down under a rock somewhere? Or both!

Whaaaaaa, how dare I wish something bad upon Barry Bonds, he has the ability to hit a baseball, you'd think I insulted the second coming with the responses.

I have a really good bud who plays in the NHL.
What does he do in the offseason?

Busts railz off strippers asses and get's totally bombed untill about a month before training camp.

Then he cuts out the partying and fires up a cycle of gear and get's praised for his "hard work' and setting and example in the offseason.

He laughs about it to me all the time and I think it's pretty funny too.
Yet this guy is made to look like a hero.

People who grovel to prefessional athletes need to give their head a shake and get their life's priorities in order.

But no I should be banned for speaking my mind, go get yourself a cloth and wipe the sand out of your vagina, maybe you won't be so cranky.

The bottom line is that Steroids are banned in baseball.
That means what bonds is doing is against the code of ethics for the sport and giving him an unfair advantage over other players who aren't juicing.
You think juicing in baseball doesn't help?

Hmm let's see about 10-15 of his homeruns a year that just clear the wall would be fly balls deep to the outfield.

Your opinion is yours... You have that right and I don't think you should be banned... However I do think you have a very warped perception of professional sports.... Just cause "your buddy" in the NHL does lines off of strippers and parties his ass off doesn't mean that he never trains... And if he doesn't guess what??? Sooner rather then later it will catch up to him... he will fall off of his game and he'll be replaced... simple as that, and no amount of juice that he takes will help him save his job or ass should he not train... Because at the professional level the person behind you is hungry as shit for your job so they can have your fame and have your money... and if you aren't willing to work for it guess what.... They are!

Steroids are banned in sports because thats what the government wants and the media portrays that to a very easily influenced American society who as individuals are rather smart and educated, however society as a whole is very stupid.... They really think that sports will be clean if some substances are banned... No matter what they do, performance enhancing substances will be in sports till there are no sports... That is a fact... people always want an edge... if the guy next to you is doing it guess what? You will be too!

It seems to me that you do not understand athletics or compitition on this level and certainly do not respect the skill that is involved to play any sport professionally... They are the best of the best.... Bonds doesn't just know how to hit a baseball.... He knows how to hit a baseball better then anyone living on this planet... If you can't respect someone for being the best in the world at something then I feel pitty for you... to dismiss his abilitys to steroid use and say that he's just cheating when conservitive numbers suggest that 40% of the players in the game are using gear too is just plain Stupidity. How come they don't hit .350 with 50 homers and 120 RBI's everyyear... hmmmm....... Oh that's right in the end it comes down to ability and who works the hardest to be the best.
