box squats

is it ok to do box squats instead of regular squats? The box I use is 10" and that is about how far I usally go down for regular squats. I like to use the box just as a reference so I don't cheat myself when I get into my last couple reps.
 
using the box as a reference and doing box squats they way they are supposed to be done is a little different. When doing a box squat one is supposed to release the tension on only the hips when on the box, then blast off. When box squatting their will be a pause on the box, when doing squats it is touch and go.

yup, just sounds like you are using the box to check depth.
