brown RICE, white RICE, all RICE..!

pharon

...always bulking
i know this might sound silly,, but i always thought that RICE is RICE...!
no matter its brown or white..!
now i think i was wrong,, so can u guys tell me wats the big difference ?

Mainly the difference is in Glycemic Index and fiber and fat -

However when you really get down to it: Once combined with Protein and Fats it really doesn't matter.

More of a personal preference. I could never eat brown rice if my life depended on it. However White Rice i love -

Also another rice you might give a shot is Basamati Rice - Very tasty however takes a long time to cook.

Yes some rices are actually high in protein, asian sticky rices, brown rices, basmati rice, are all more healthy than the typical white rice Americans eat--that stuff is pure starch. Rice is always fairly high on the glycemic index that is why so many poor countries consume so much of it. Inexpensive source of calories.

then why everybody says that brown rice is better as a low glycemic carb?

Because compared to White rice - Brown Rice is low glycemic

However - The index is based on that food alone.

As BB we don't only eat rice. We get proteins along with it.

Brown Rice is good- However for you and i its blown out of proportion.

Dirk, what is your thoughts on Yams/Sweet Potatoes? I can't eat them for the life of me.

You know easto i don't like Sweet Potatos either unless their covered in Brown Sugar and Butter---haha

If you can eat them then they are a good carb source, but i don't think they are necessarly better then say a Potato, Rice, Oatmeal, ect

Everyone is really different - I stick with BABY NEW POTATOS and WHITE RICE, because thats what works. Like i mentioned i don't like Sweet potatos and oatmeal bloats the hell out of me typically.

I will say that when i set up a diet with a client i do like them to eat:

Red Potatos (Baby's)
Yukon Golds
Sweet Potatos / Yam

I don't like using your typical Russet Potato, and would stay away from them. Way to much starch.

Sweet potatoes are good roasted, or as tempura, or stir fried in olive oil. I can't stand them candied.

Brown rice might not taste as good as white rice, but its much better 4 u. U can add spices/sauces to make it more enjoyable. I've had some brown rice w/pheasant and chicken that was pretty damn good. Its all in how u prepare it. I hate cooking though. :P

i like to mix white rice with microwaved chop meat and add fried tomato and onion as my sauce, also add some spicy peppers,mmm.., i like to avoid salt, that's why i fry my sauce

hmmm...now thats gonna send me to the kitchen rightaway...! :eyes:
lol

Well the difference between the types of rice is in the glycemic Index...

That's why brown rice is most suitable for meals, as it is the lowest GI rice... White rice is only suitable for post-workout meals actually.

Basmati rice is also white rice by the way. I saw someone say that it takes a long time to cook. That's not true, it takes 8 minutes...

Basamati rice must soak for 20 min - Then you must slowly steam for basamati to taste good.

It really doesn't matter when you get down to it.

I told easto in a PM that my last contest my nutritionist had me eating Flavored Oatmeal packets and white rice. It sure didn't hurt my conditioning.

I searched basmati rice, and on the package it says 8 minutes. I guess it depends on where you get it. It only takes 8 minutes if it has been dried and such in advance by the manufacturer. The steaming normally takes 5 minutes after you're done cooking it.
