2x8's will work..stack them together..that is the cheapest way to go..
also i got this adjustable squat box for xmas and all i can say is its the greates thing for me..i dont have to drag benches around the gym i can set the height up that i want dont have to wrry about walking a weight out around the bench leg..its very sturdy and durable..well worth the money.. http://www.newyorkbarbells.tv/7610.html
that same one was recomended to me ofver at IA form but Im' in cnada so the shippnig will kick my butt.
if i don't build one form the 2 X8 's I might looking to seeing if my dad can get me the steel I'll need and if the gf father can show me how to weld it up ro weld it for me since he has experience welding cars
that may work just as good..its really just a matter of making a top where youll sit and then the legs for support and drilling holes in the legs so that you can adjust the box..im sure it can easily be done by someone handy

well it all depends on the box heights you want to use..i would make the lowest setting 10 or 11 inches and teh highest setting maybe 16..although i havent used a box over 15 inches
