Can you Powerlift without a partner?

I am making the switch from BB to PL mainly because I have found that even though I like the bodybuilder look, I just like to push heavy weight around. I bought a set of bands from iron woody and am going to hold off on using them for a little while I think. Anyways I am going to be doing a WSB routine with accesory work being mainly sled pulling once I build one and jumping onto a high box. I am just worried that it will be hard for me to hit PR's and such and even make it through ME day without a training partner. I mean sometimes I might have one but most times I probably won't. I can always ask for a spot obviously but it will be a pain in the ass after 12 sets of heavy work. Basically I am just wondering how well you guys that work alone do and what do you do to adjust to the fact that no one may be there to help.

Agreed, for the most part. Shirt training though, get a spotter. Even putting on a loose shirt by yourself is going to be interesting, but trying to lift alone in one, not even remotely a good idea. It would be hard not to have the shirt ride up on you, and putting the belt on while holding the shirt down, fuck - get someone to train with or train raw.

No idea how a squat suit would be, never wore one.

At the least ask for a spotter, if you belong to a gym with a lot of powerlifters I am sure getting a spot should be easy.

come to think of it, my spotter sucks. you should feel blessed...

I used a WSB template for a while without a partner. you just have to know what your limits are and dont attempt anything stupid. when going for a 1RM or 3RM just ask for a spot. having a partner who is also doing WSB is great for motivation, but not crucial.

Thanks for the responses guys. I guess I can always ask for a spot. I never see too many threads related to size put on with PL style routines. I know a lot of guys try to maintain the same weight for competition and stuff, but if one were to use a diet that would create a good size building environment I would assume lifting that heavy would provide some incredible size gains. Anyone put on a lot of size when switching?

the most size I ever put on was from PL training. PL + food = mass

Yeah we have a power rack. I figured what I would do is try to set the pins at a point where I could dump the bar and it wouldn't go flying and on something like shoulder presses I could do the same. The only excercises I foresee being a problem are extensions and chest press movements. Another question I had would be how do you get out of a good morning if you find that at the bottom you can't make it back up lol. Not really much room for a spot and it would be tough to dump it.

You cannot lift in a bench shirt without a few spotters. Do not try it. Thier is at least one guy in Jersey who had to have his face rebuilt. A lot of shirts will dump the bar back towards your head.

I am in Jersey too bro. I am not going to do any training with shirts or suits. Just gonna start off with straight raw weight. I have a set of bands and am going to build myself a set of chains in a month or so but not planning on using them quite yet. I don't know if I will ever use a shirt because I don't know if this is something I want to try to do competitively. Just wanna add some size and strength and the westside articles really intrigued me. I also don't want to kill myself lol

get the westside beginners manual, it has everything mapped out in an easy to follow fashion. minimal equipment necessary. follow it as its laid out and you will get bigger/stronger no question about it. just make sure to eat enough to support the workload.

to answer your question about GM's, what you do is set the pins at the point of where you are at the bottom of the lift, or right above. alot of people tap the pins and come back up. never try to dump it over your head, i only imagine some neck/back injuries.
