Carbohydrates necessary for growth??

I'm on week five of my first cycle--sust/dbol cycle--sust 350/wk--quit dbol a week ago. I started my cycle at 210--now I'm at 238--my lifts have been increasing every workout. I've been eating and eating and eating--I've been eating a lot of protein and trying to eat as clean as possible--I suppose I could do a little better because I've put two inches onto my waist.

I was thinking of going no carb on my diet EXCEPT for pre and post workout when I was thinking of continuing to drink whey protein shakes with maltodextrin(carbs). My QUESTION is: Will I be giving up muscle growth by going no carbs during my non workout meals? I mean are carbs needed to process the protein and fat I'm consuming--and will I be compromising muscle growth by cutting the carbs out of my diet?

carbohydrates are a basic necessity for muscle growth. They are not actually needed to "process the protein and fat" to quote your post .
I think that if you are really trying to put on some pounds then be sure to have a good amount of carbohydrates in your diet. If you are trying to burn fat during a cycle, then the diet style you posted is a good idea (carbs after workout only).

IMO, most people go overkill on the amount of Protein needed for growth. In my experience, 1-1 1/2 grams of Protein per pound of bodyweight is plenty.

This is so true. People read the magazines and think they need 600 grams of protein a day just to put on a pound of muscle. I weigh over 200 pounds and usually eat in the area of 175-200 grams of protein each day and I gain just fine when I want to.

Thanks for the responses--I want to put on weight but I'm concerned about laying down too much fat--I want the gains to be quality--and I know from my own experience that limiting my carbs except pre and post workout will keep me from adding fat. What I don't know is whether limiting my carb intake will reduce my full potential for building muscle since I'm in the middle of a cycle and want to add as much muscle as possible. Any opinions?

If you are worried about fat this is what works for me: do intense cardio for 20 minutes 3 times a week and limit your carbs after 6pm. Simple enough, right?

If you are trying to bulk...dont worry about a little added fat. As long as you stay clean in your diet the fat gain will be kept to a minimum and then you can shed it off when you decide to cut. Keep eating clean and lifting heavy!

What do you mean by eating clean, isnt it the same how you put on fat? By junkfood or clean food?
upping your portions of clean food is much better but if you still need the calories throw in some junk , just dont overdo it

Not everyone i the same. Some people-like me just don't grow well with a lot of carbs. I tend to get real bloated and fat when I eat a lot of carbs. I eat tons of protein and grow very well. I eat about 400+g of protein and about 300g of carbs.
By the way I weight about 225 right now.

It will take a little experimenting with the optimum level of carbs for your body...Try out just adding in small increments and see what level is best. Like CrazyMike said...some dont need real high carbs...Everybodies body is different. Eating clean means eating all the good protein items such as chicken,tuna,ect...good carbs...brown rice,oatmeal,ect...good fats...flax oil, olive oil, nuts ect.....just upping the portions.
Dont throw in an ice cream sundae because you need an extra 100 grams of carbs!!
Good luck bro..Just remember bro..losing the abs for a bit is worth it to pack on some good quality muscle
Good luck
