Chest/tri Q And A

Omniscient!
Hmmm...why Would One Decide Not To Train Tri's On Chest Day...lets Assume For A Moment, It Is For A Guy Who Enters Powerlifting Comps And Trains For Dead, Squat, And Bench...

For my workout routine i do:
day 1: Chest/Shoulders/abs
day 2: back
day 3: rest
Day 4:Biceps/triceps/forearms
day 5: legs/abs

For me at least when i work back or chest my arms dont get too sore so i like to dedicate a whole day on arms only. i dunno if its right or wrong but its been working out ok for me.

For a plethura of reasons. I used to train triceps on chest day until I realized how less effective it was for me. Obviously you train your tri's after you train your chest, and if I had a intense chest workout, I would have barely an energy left to hit tri's. And on the days that I forced myself too, my tricep routine would be half ass because Im half spent already.

i dont think your lifts would really be set up like that if you were really serious about powerlifting comps....

would they?

I've tried 3 different methods. ONe being the bi/tri day. 2nd being the back/tri or opposing muscle group theory and last i've done chest/tri's, the assistance theory.

I find chest tri's to be the best and for a powerlifter it relaly makes sense especialy, if you are a 3 lift lifter.

I'm with this guy.

chest/shoulder/tri
rest
back/bi/trap -deads every other week
rest
legs
rest

my best spilt thus far. I'd done the chest/bi, legs/shoulders, back/tri biz...it's good for changing things up but never resulting in anything great. I've also done the chest/back, shoulder/bi/tri, legs...but could never get enough out of the chest/back day even though the arms days gave me a great pump.

well..i have found that if lifting correctly, my chest blows out before my tri's, especially if lifting correctly and with the grip positioned...i see most guys bench wrong in the gym anyhow..they use a ton of tri's...grip to narrow, to low on the body...if i lift correct, my tris have a pupmp, but are not blown out....so...why not? and of course, i am lifting heavy..well heavy to me..i am not in it for anything but power lifting..

any other thoughts????

unless you use to much tris on your bench right? then it would be less effective...

in PL, the bench is more tris than pecs, hence the inclusion of tris on bench day.

there is no chest or pec day in a PL routine ,only a bench day

tris are always over work. u use them for bench and shoulders, so if you have seperate days for chest/tris/shoulders your really working them out 3 times a week

Powerlifters for the most part are going to have a bench day. Not a chest day. I don't do any direct tri work unless it is some band pushdowns. I get my tris strong from close grips, benching and boards. Most powerlifters try and get their accesory work in for bench during their bench days. But i have heard of guys doing pushdowns with bands 5x a week, just like rows.
