Cortisone Shots?

I have some inflammation (osteoarthritis) in my right shoulder joint and was wondering if a cortisone shot might help it. Does anyone have experience with cortisone shots? Also, I was wondering where is the injection put and is it painful?

From what I've read, cortisone shots are a bad idea. I think cortisone just destroys whatever it comes in contact with, I would avoid it if at all possible
