Different size muscles?

So i am coming to you guys because i dont know how to fix this problem. I had 2 back surgeries about 3 to 4 months ago. I had to use a cain for awhile after the surgeries. I used the cain with my left hand. Now that i am working out again i can see a very noticable difference in the left peck (bigger and fuller) compared to the right peck. I have talk to a couple of people about it and some said the smaller muscle will catch up to the bigger muscle with regular exercise. Do you think it will? The only other alternative i can think of is use the cain with the right hand so the muscle has the same composition, look, and size. HELP. I attached a pic below. (Leftpeck is bigger than Right peck).

I had a similar problem after having knee surgery on my right leg which caused it to atrophy and of course my left leg got bigger. While this led to my left knee having problems (and another surgery), the muscles did catch up to each other with some work in physical therapy and in the gym. I'd try some isolation exercises to see if you can't bring your left pec up to snuff. Good luck!

My .02c :)

Are you right handed?

This might not make any difference for you, but being right handed, everything on my right grows just a tad' faster.

Because of this, I try to get at least an extra set (or partial set) on my left side when I work out....or fight for one more rep on the left...etc.

I don't see why you couldn't fight for an extra rep' on your right when working without a bar?

Dunno... just thinking out loud.

We r not symetrical by any means our muscles tend to be smaller and weaker anstronger and bigger depending on what our dominant side is. Now since you where using the cane with the left hand remeber that the left side was getting exercise the right did not. If your right hand/side dominant it will be just a bit of time but everything will catch up. Me am all fucked up. My left pec is bigger than my right and my right trap is bigger than mybleft. Shit even my left nut is bigger than my right and am right hand/ side dominant lolololol.

I could do extra reps. But i am concerned if i dont use the cain or something just the same, the exercise will produce a different look for the muscle that is behind. Hence wanting to use the cain. I know it sounds dumb. But there is just that much of a size difference. You can tell easily through the shirt.

LOL....Alright. I will just not worry about it for awhile and give it a chance to catch up. Just gotta remind myself that these things can take time...lol

Um... so you're thinking of using a cane on the side you don't normally need it just to even out?

I don't know the details of your injury/surgery, but was it something where using the cane in your left gave more relief?

I'd be really careful using a cane on the "off hand" of your injury. They can screw up the balance of how you stand/walk and might aggravate the situation with your back.

Canes usually "shift" weight and stress to the strong side more than simply taking weight off the weak side. If you reverse...well...you get it.

Better to use the cane for your injury until it's no longer needed and work on your symmetry using other methods that don't alter your posture.

Just my humble opinion

I dont eed to use the cain any longer. Haven't used it in like 2 months or so. My back is 110% now. Been workig out heavy. Put on almost 30 pounds since the surgery!!! Doctor said its fie to, just said listen to my body. If it hurts then stop, or use less weight. I was meaning just use the cain on the smaller side like at home every once i awhile to catvh it back up. But i am gonna take everyones advice and just work out and see if that fixes it!!! But thanks.

I am confused at how you are going to use a cain to build muscle? I think only using the cain on the other side would allow the bigger full pec to loose muscle down to the one that is less full.

The side i used the cain on is the biggest it has ever been. I gained muscle on that side. You gotta think. You use it all day everyday and you gain muscle. Justlike working out.

Cool. All I'm sayin' is that you could take a person with zero back problems and have them walk with a cane for a couple months (especially intentionally putting weight on it) and cause back problems for them.

Considering you already had back surgery, I'd be afraid to risk it.

All the Best

one solution is to use a tens unit as a muscle simulator on the weaker side , it will help it catch up as this practice is common for atrophy

i got a good one off amazon for 52$

What a dumb thread. Everyone has muscle imbalances/symmetry problems, to some extent, some worse than others.

Op, don't bother wasting your money on tens or estym, it wont make any difference.

I already said its a dumb thread clman8585. Just thought i would ask some people. And its not just a muscle imbalance. When you have people who you dont even know comment its hella embarrasing. Its that much of a difference. I dont even like to go to the gym or in public cause of it.

Not true, I'm right handed my left bicep has at least an inch on my right

I honestly don't see any drastic flaws in your symmetry.
