dips vs bench

which is better for functional, person to person strength? I would have to go with dips for being an open kinetic exercise, what do you all think?

Dumbell bench press is a safer movement for the shoulder joint and also requires greater balancing and stabilizing coordination, so I would have to say it is generally superior for real-world functional strength applications.

Once you learn how to bench properly I have no shoulder problems, however reverse grip benching is yet even more friendly to me.

I like dips but I use them as a finisher and/or replacement for decline benches.

Dips palms out .....with tapered handles ^ would isolate chest best.....not a good excersise to do after bench ........MO

when it comes to dips your technique determines what muscle group is targeted , if you do them upright the triceps are targeted and if you do them head down and upper body parallel to the floor the chest is more involved

yeah, bench mechanics are tough to master most folks think its just bring it down and push it back up, but thers more to it than that. Anyways I just bench with close grips and regular grip. dont do dips much they kinda hurt my wrist.

i find myself doing bench more often but dips have helped me add much more mass

im a big fan of decline bench but dips is a good replacement for it

I really haven't done dips in a very long time. But i've started too add decline too my workouts and get rid of my flat bench.
