Diskectomy

I been training for about eight years , which through, I am sure bad form, has ultimately resulted in a diskectomy (S1 and L5). I am not competitive, but, as PB would call me, a very keen gym rat.

I have been told by my surgeon that my days of heavy weights are a thing of the past. I have done a search on this site and it appears that there are people who have in fact made a full recoverey to lifting what they previously did (although this is not completely clear), which may prove that my surgeon is overely cautious. I'm obviously hoping that this is true as the thought of never doing deads again is extremely depressing.

Nevertheless, I'd like to hear if anybody has made a full recoverey or knows of people who have.

Another question, bottom line-is it possible to grow without deads and squats? Simply dreaming?

Don't know that it'd be IMPOSSIBLE to lift heavy ever again, but I do believe it would be pretty painful for you without the disks lubricating the articulations between the vertebrae. You'll definitely have to work your way back up SLOWLY and develop the musculature better to better support the vertebrae, as well as probably have a pretty good pain tolerance since it's gonna be basically bone on bone there.

Just my .02, could be wrong.
