I do think it starts as sense of accomplishment. Later on I think it's more of a masochistic thing to be honest. That or I just have developed this mental image of pinning = strength/sexuality/virility/manliness.
Ohhhhhh christ. I've flexed ONCE with a pin in me. It was because my daughter happened to be in the room as I was doing a delt, and she put her ice cold hands on my naked back. My whole body tensed up and I immediately felt this nasty sensation in my arm. I didn't get SUPER bad pip from that, but it kind of freaked me out.That feeling of the needle picking over muscle when you accidentially flex when pinning and relax after the needle is in.

I can't find the pic at the moment but his autopsy revealed the guy had a couple dozen needles broken off in his arms.

Whoa, glad I refreshed for your edit. I bet over time the scar tissue that wraps around them dulls the nerve sensation. But I couldn't imagine what it would feel like if someone ran a strong magnet by your neck with all that metal in there!

They're very thin walled and tiny as it is. It really doesn't require that much force to bend, then break one. Especially if you want to. We just simply don't want little pieces of surgical steel inside us, so we handle them with care.

I could see all that being plausible. Plus there's the since of doing something that is against what's sociably acceptable. You're breaking the law, well some of us are, you overcome fear, etc. I can kinda see it like getting tattooed. It's scary at first, but once you get through it you keep going back for more.

Most of them are very mentally disturbed. I believe Albert Fish did it as he was "numb" and wanted to feel pain. He was one twisted dude.
