Drawing from a 1ml Glass Ampule

I have several 1ml glass ampules and was wondering if anyone else has an easy way of drawing from these things. I need to use two for each injection so it's a bit of a pain.

Also, does anyone use filtered needles to ensure no particles get in the syringe?

Any thoughts on the best way to do this would be appreciated.

that's a good question, i often wonder when i break the ampule if any glass is in their, but i take vice grips and gently break the very top of the amp, i know there is a portion that is scored on the amp and that will easily break using your thumb or fingers but, if your break it at the very top you won't lose any fluid and it generally breaks off pretty clean.
 
I always wondered this myself. If you watch medical videos of nurses drawing from glass ampules they use a filter-syringe fitment. Not sure if this would work with an oil base?

I just make sure I use the smallest needle I can draw with - about a 25G for the testoviron I have - it's thick stuff!

As AvidUser says, look on the vial for the pre-scored mark so you can snap the top of the vile at that point. I wrap tissue paper round the base and around the top, then put bother thumbs together over the pre-scored mark and snap!

If your ampules don't have a pre-scored mark I'd suggest making your own with a nail file, it helps the ampule snap open better.

I never used a filtered syringe to draw out of an ampule, but you raise a legitimate concern. Most important is to break it off clean...take some time to score even if it is marked to ensure a clean break...and use a high guage needle as stated.....I guess you can never be sure if glass passes through the needle, but a filter may bring peace of mind.
 
Thanks all. Looks like we all have a similar concern. I ordered some 21 gauge filtered needles, but I never gave it some thought if an oil base would work with it. Hmmm.

If anyone has done this with an Oil base and Filtered needle please advise.

ive suggested this before. please spend the five bucks and buy an amp opener from your pin source. they work great. why dick around. as far as drawing use the smallest pin you can get away with and draw at a 45 degree angle works every time for me. and then switch to a new pin.
 
I just use 2 different pins , 1 for drawing and 1 for injecting. You are gonna lose a little but why worry...it's such a small amount that might be left , who cares.

an amp opener is a great idea. an other one i use and never ever have a problem is a pen lid.
slide this over and snap it off. snaps clean every time.

Ive used an amp opener on many occasions and I still had them break in my hand. I gave amps up awhile ago. Besides....they are too inconvenient to me. I wonder what makes some of these ugl's even go that route , I mean , why not just draw it from a 10ml bottle? Sounds so much more easier and sanitary too.

I agree on the Ampules... they suck. Unfortunately some of the product if only available that way so the choice is limited.

You guys have offered up a lot of ideas. I did order some 18 Gauge Filtered Needles and I'll let you know if they work with the Oil base.

I am also going to try an Amp opener as suggested.

Ive never had the problem of sucking up glass after I broke an amp, however you may get cheap amps from various ugl suppliers. Remember that if you use filters, you will lose some product that gets left in the filter. Ozzy's solution to change pinz is a good solution if your worried. Remember glass would have to be pretty damn small to go through a pin.
 
It's been years since I used an amp but we never did any of that stuff. Just pop it open with your thumb, use a 23g pin and you're good to go.

So maybe thats not the best idea but I don't seem to have any glass in my ass.
