Dumbell flyes...........flat or incline?

When reading through peoples routines you hardly ever see flat dumbell flyes, it's always incline. Don't incline flyes mainly hit the shoulder/pec-delt tie?

I do flat dumbell flyes and they really hit my front delts hard, they ache almost as much as my chest does the next day, so I'd imagine incline flyes hit the shoulders even more.

If you do dumbell flyes, which do you do, flat or incline? Is one better than the other?

What is the main purpose of the dumbell flye? Inner chest? Is it mainly a shaping exercise?

Is there a best rep range with dumbell flyes? Would using heavy weight and low reps with the dumbell flye be effective? Or is it better to do higher reps?

Would there be any point in doing decline flyes?

Upper pecs, delt tie-in, etc.

Neither is better then the other. Just do whichever one you feel more comfortable doing, or if you want to focus on the upper pecs, etc.

I feel it through the entire region of the pec muscle. I don't really think it effects one portion of it more then the other unless you are doing incline flyes versus flat bench, etc.

Any time that I have done dumbbell flyes I have always used a higher rep range then I normally do. If you go super heavy, because of the extreme stretch position at the bottom of the movement, you could do some serious harm.

flyes are worthless. stick to pressing movements, and dips

and just for the record, theres no such thing as a "shaping excersize". You can make a muscle bigger or smaller, you cant change its shape.

i personally think that flys have there place in a well rounded chest workout. . . more of a finishing move though,,, that is :AFTER: all major compound exercises. . . as for incline vs. flat or even decline fly’s ,,, make a conscious effort to switch it up. They all work the muscle slightly differently.

just my 2cents ...

9 times outa 10 they just aint necessary. Too many people do them who should be strapping up on dips and going for broke. If you want to stretch the fascia - dips baby. Then hit your extreme stretching and tell me you'd rather do flys.

this is bullshit FLEX magazine propoganda.

if youve done a few all out sets of heavy incline bench with 200+, or dips with 100 pounds strapped to your waist, what the fuck are 45 pound dumbell flyes going to do. Lemme guess, after your flyes for your "finishing" move, you do some pec dec for "sculpting" the chest, then blast out 100 pushups to "fatigue" the chest, then stand in front of the mirror and bounce your tits for an hour to establish a good mind muscle connection? gimme a break. Flyes are the concentration curl of the chest.

if your goal is to get a bigger, stronger chest, flyes are worthless. I guess they could be fit into a routine for another specific purpose, but not getting hyoooooooge

hmmm ... that’s interesting.... well after i BLAST out my last set of inclines at 255lbs or better... i go to my finishing of the supposed "concentration curl" to give me a good stretch on that muscle and a nice burn to go along with it... and its not till I’m done with that that i "BOUNCE MY TITTIES" in the mirror or nearest adjacent reflective object. didn't realize that this subject offended you so much sally.

... oh ,,, and i'm not discounting dips,,, they have there place in building chest as well,,,actually i really enjoy them, ,, but ..... i'm also not going to drop fly's just cus some one else doesnt like them. the original question was flat or incline? . . the answer to it is switch it up,,,, flat/incline/dips... to bodybuild you can't be single minded... switch it up...
