Full range of motion

Hey recently I have watched a few video training clips, mostly of pro bodybuilders. When these huge guys are working out, they hardy ever do a full range of motion rep. Especially biceps movements such as preacher and concentration curl. Also on bench and sholuder press. Could anyone tell me why this is?

results from partial reps i guess. I think it's different for everyone, have to see what works best for you.

Thats wot i was thining. there sum big big guys in my gym. And never do a full range of motion especially in bench or shoulder press.

i always see that too and wonder what they might look like if they did a full rom

Ive noticed that when watching people bench. I suppose if your benching heavy and lockout then the strain transfers from the chest and tri's to the elbows which cant be good.

what about the fact that most pro's dont have a good range of motion because they're 260 lbs+ I treat partial reps like cheat curls or assisted reps..there good to do but should never replace a full controlled extension/contraction

good theory except powerlifters do full ROM even if they are 400 plus pounds.

well powerlifters look horrible and big body builders don't.
wouldn't it make sense to do what works for those who are already successful?

i rarely lock out completely when doing bench or shoulder press... takes the stress off my chest/delts, the muscles I wanna work and transfers stress to my triceps the secondary muscle

everyone is different but I personally don't like a full lock out for those 2 exercises

locking out and having a full range of motions are two completely different things. i never completly lock out on any of my exercises for fear of fucking my joints up, but a full range of motion i think is needed to get the full benefit of the exercise. dadawg, i never thought about powerlifters, thats a good point

also, do you think the shit u see in those "training" vids is really how those guys train?

jus food for thought.

lo sure there are fat powerlifters but have you seen guys like lee priest off season , he looks like a whale [ no offense lee , makeing a point] .
ive seen powerlifters who carry much more mass than many on the stage at the olympia but either dont have the genetics [ symetry / small joints / etc. ] dont have the interest in bodybuilding , or dont want to diet to that extreme . and its easy being a computer jockey with comments like that but i would give you 2 seconds if you said that a major Pl meet before you were strung upside down from a squat rack lol .
these days more and more lifters are coming in fairly lean so as to hold the most muscle they can in their weight class , the problem is that most pics seen on tv or in the mags is the superheavyweights because they lift the most but they dont have to make weight and thats only 1 division.

heres a thread about a WORLD class powerlifter with pics . look at the way he looks when he is superheavy weight class and the way he looks when he decides to lose weight/cut up . how can anyone look at those pics and say that heavy lifting with low reps wont add mass . ive been to the arnold twice and to several smaller BB comps not to mention a butt load of powerlifting competitions and you might bullshit yourself but your not bullshitting me . train heavy / eat / rest = GROW

Moving some of the weight you guys move is incredible. It amazes me how strong PW are in their lifts. As I am watching I am telling myself their is no way in hell i would get under that weight. Just always impressed me!

cant never could lol . ronnie coleman does powerlifting training and hes one big mofo , training with that much weight is the only surefire way to add the most mass and definately adds the most thickness . ive seen many a bodybuilder who trained high rep and low weight that looked good front or back but when they turned to the side the truth was told , they just didnt have the thickness that a heavy lifter attains . tom platz , ronnie coleman and many other bodybuilders incooperate powerlifting into their training , theres probablly a reason for that , dont you think .

totally agree! Ronnie Coleman doing an 800lb squat for reps is just crazy to watch.

Makes my knees hurt!

I've seen that Coleman video and those are bullshit lifts; that fucker isn't even CLOSE to parallel. Those weren't squats; those were curtsies. Let's find a big-ass skirt for him to wear the next time he does a set of curtsies. Ass to grass baby!

If you're not using a full range of motion then you're only cheating yourself out of both size and strength and you're outright lying to your friends when you tell them about that 400 lb bench you have.

Fuck, if I lifted the way some of these bitches in the gym do and call it a rep my bench would jump from 345 to about 500!
