I do this but only when taking in a fast digesting protein, like whey isolate (thats been broken down from larger amino chains to smaller particles allowing for rapid digestion). Otherwise, the insulin spike is only going to drive whatever nutrients are currently in the blood stream at the time of ingesting the high GI carb.
so , if you take in sugar or dextrose along with say your steak , the dextrose is going to spike insulin and drive nutrients that are currently available ,,, the protein in the steak will not be available for hours later. so there is NO benefit here with taking in a high GI carb with a slow digesting protein, or a protein that contains fat (fat slows digestion of the protein down ever further).
high GI carb taken around the same time as a whey protein isolate is the only time i see that 'may' be beneficial . Of course, if a high GI carb fits your macros and calories for the day , consuming it would not be a hindrance (so have at it) , BUT just don't expect it to drive proteins along with it at the same time as ingesting it unless the protein taken is fast absorbing.
