High Bilirubine levels?

A high bilirubin level means that bile is not being distributed properly in your body. Most likely a duct is closed or clogged due to swelling of the liver when it happens from juice imo. Def. a sign of liver damage and stress. Generally when the bilirubin level(normally .5 to 1.5) exceeds 5.0 you will start experiencing some itching and maybe some jaundice. When it gets over ten you have yellow eyes, itchy skin, fatigue, upset stomache from food not digesting properly due to absence of bile in intestines to aid in breaking down food for energy and nutrition, diahhrea. If the bilirubin level gets above 20 you itch so bad you can hardly stand it and you are so tired you can't get up and you begin losing weight really fast, gets over 30 and you wish you were dead you itch so bad it hurts and could be dead soon if the liver doesn't correct itself. In most cases of liver damage the doctors cannot do anything to correct the liver. They just wait and see. Causes? juice, toxins, antobiotics etc.

So a high bilirubin level really sucks imo!

So how high are the bilirubin levels you are speaking of?

My bilirubin levels are 3.20mg/dl,max range here in belgium is 1.00mg/dl. Let me tell you that at that time i was completly natural and was not taking anything besides multi-vitamines,vit c. I even wasn't training,i had almost a year layoff because of injury. But i must admit that i was still eating lots of proteinrich foods, like whole eggs, steak, good fats like nuts flax and olive oil. And (a little embarresing) a lot of chocolate because of frustration not able to train.
Everything else with my bloodwork was ok.Then the doctor did an ultrasound of my liver, galbladder, kidney's etc,and everything seems to be normal. Then i started eating lots less and 2 months after i did bloodwork again, then the bilirubin was decreased to 2.15mg/dl,everything else in normal range. Then is started training again, first light and then more and more intensive and also started eating more and more and also began a light cycle of deca and equi 100mg each/week for my joints. Then i did my third bloodwork and my bilirubin was raised again to 3.16mg/dl and als two of my liverenzymes got and gpt both 40 (max range 37) before they where 21. Then i did my second ultrasound and again everything seems to be normal. So i wonder what could be the cause?

If I were you i would be doing the same thing you are. I would go to the dr. and monitor the bilirubin level. They will be checking gall bladder and pancreas and liver to make sure they eliminate all the bad stuff that could be wrong. You will probably keep being tested until a few months after it normalizes again.

have the dr. said anything about OTC medications that could be the victim? Are you taking meds? I got sick from a ZPack antibiotics. I know medications like tylenol and lamisil(foot fungus), antibiotics and others have a temporary effect on bilirubin levels and i believe certain foods do as well.

We know that just by working out and eating lots of protein our liver levels could go up to a degree anyway.

Be safe and I hope you figure it out bro.

Hopefully you can find out if you are taking or eating something that is bothering you and stop it and everything will be normal again. I don't know though all i know is what happened to me when i got sick and why i got sick. my bilirubin got up tp 40 a few years back when i had a reaction to the zpack.

have they asked you about hepatitis yet? The dr. kept asking me if i had cheated on my wife and possibly got hep. that was when they were trying to figure out what was wring with me. i never had hep but they may be asking you the same thing?

Squat,

Do a google search on Gilbert's Syndrome. It is a genetic problem. I have it and it is not a problem. If I ever go to the hospital, I have to tell them I have Gilberts or they will freak out when blood work comes back. My bilirubin count is usually around 2-2.5

Thanks for the respons guys!
I hope i can figure out what the problem is,i don't or didn't take any medications, just supplements like proteinpowder,multi's,vit-c and elasty-joint and eating like stated above (maybe a bit to much of a good thing when i didn't needed at that time). The ultrasounds schowed everything normal like liver, galbladder, pancreas, milt, kidney's,no swelling or anything like that.Hepatitis was also negative and he didn't say anything about Gilbert's Syndrome.
The doctor told me to stop all supps and to start eating like a "normal" person to see if that gives any effect,he said that too much protein and or fat could play a role, but when i stop everything, how the hell would i know which or what could be the cause? Besides,i gonna lose weight and muscle like that.

@Harvey:How did you find out that you have Gilbert's Syndrome?
Anybody else something to add or opinions/explanations?
Thank you

I went to my family doctor for blood work to see if I could qualify for HRT. Everything was normal but a low normal testosterone count and a high bilirubin count. He sent me to an endocrinologist who diagnosed me with Gilbert's. It is a genetic deficiency in an enzyme that converts bilirubin to a form that can be expeled from your body. They don't treat it as it is not a serious problem. With your levels, I bet this is what you have. But I am not a physician so this is only my opinion.

Good Luck

Harvey:
What kind of treatment do you get? Is there anykind of special traetment for it? Do you have to eat different?

Thanks very much.

My doctor said treatment is not necessary. I don't eat any different now than I did before I found out I had it, which means a high protein, moderate carb, low fat diet. There is tons of info on the internet on Gilbert's Syndrome.

juice isnt the only thing that stresses the liver , alcohol and tylenol are both just as stressfull to the liver as orals
