Hey guys hoping ye can help. I have been making good pprogress on close grip bench press lately and thought this would transfer to bench but it does not. I am now closegripping more than i bench.
I think the problem is close grip i am a lot more compact and can generate more power. In normal bench my arms are out in a wider grip and a lot of stress is put on my shoulders. When i bench after a few sets my shoulders are fried.
However my strngth and size in shoulders has gone up tremendously this summer but this makes no difference for bench they still fatigue out leaving my chest not worked properly even with plenty of rest and about 4 days after shoulders.
Surely this is not right?

try benching the same way you close grip except just use your 'normal" grip
if your close grip form does not mimic your reg bench form its EASY to see why you have no carry over
 
I agree - it sounds like a problem with your form. I would guess (can't tell for sure without seeing though) that you're elbows are flaring out too wide and that's why you're getting so much stress put on your shoulders.
